*Flashback*
"Happy birthday, my angel," a familiar voice whispered as the person sat down at the end of my bed. I yawned and turned myself in my bed to face my mother. I beamed when I noticed the big presents next to her and I tried to reach for one of them immediately. When I couldn't reach she handed one of them to me and I almost ripped the paper off because of my excitement. Just as I had opened it and seen it was a white teddy bear with a heart locket around its neck, my father came in with a camera and snapped a picture of me.
"I can't believe our little girl is already six years old," dad said as I opened another present, this one square and a bit smaller but heavier. It was hard so I knew it wasn't clothes. My face dropped when I found out it was some old book. I furrowed my eyebrows and looked up at my parents.
"What's this?" I asked them.
"That, honey, is something very special for when you get older," mom answered me, smiling happily while she did.
"Then why do I get it now?" I scrunched my nose in confusion about this huge book with some kind of lock on it.
"Because we thought it would be a good idea to give it to you now. We know you can't really read yet, but that book is going to help you a lot when you're older," she commented.
"Is it a book about boys?" I asked, looking unpleased by the idea. Dad laughed as he shook his head.
"It's much more important but we can't tell you yet, Angelina," he said. "Maybe when you're older and you have read it, you'll understand."
"Oh," I mumbled confused as I stared at the book. Why did they give me a book now? I can't read. I put the book down on my nightstand and started unwrapping the other presents. A lot of them were really good (toys) and others not (clothes).
"I've put something for you to wear on the chair over there," mother said as she pointed to my little pink princess chair. "Get dressed and come downstairs. We have a big breakfast for you when you get there." I nodded and hurriedly jumped out of bed to get my clothes on.
*Flashback end*
I sat on the floor in my room surrounded by old stuff from when I was younger, trying to sort everything out. Some had to be packed down again and put up on the ceiling while other things had to be put nicely somewhere in my room. Like pictures and a few of my toys.
"I can't believe you're only doing this now, Angelina. It's dark outside," my mother's voice murmured from where she stood in the doorframe. I turned my head to look at her and let out a sigh.
"I know. I just have had so many things to do and this is the last box," I replied.
"Do you want some help?" she asked as she stepped closer and sat down beside me.
"Yes please." I nodded.
We both went to work and were almost done when I found a square thing wrapped in some paper. I frowned in curiosity and took the paper off it, realizing it was a big and old book. "Mom? What's this?"
She looked at me and then at the book I had in my hands before her eyes went wide. "That's the book we gave you when you turned six. I had forgotten about that one."
"What book?" I asked as I examined it.
"It's something special. You should read it as soon as you can," she advised.
"What is it about?" I tried to read on the backside of it but quickly found out that there weren't anything on the back except a pair of wings burned into the wooden cover.
"Your grandma gave it to me when I was about your age. I found it really intriguing. Sadly I can't answer that question. You have to read it yourself to find out."
"but why did you give it to me if you like it that much?" I asked.
"Grandma told me to give it to you before she died," she explained.
"Hmm..." I looked at the book, finally noticing the small string attached to it. I pulled it and found a little key in the end of it.
"I guess I'll leave you to it," mom said and left the room. I crawled into my bed and sat up against the headboard, making myself comfortable. I took the key and turned the lock on the side of the book. It opened with a little click and I opened the book, turning the first page. First thing I noticed was that there was no name of the author on any of the pages. The second thing I got my eyes on was a single line on the first page surrounded by a pattern.

Keep believing and you will fly. Stop trying and you will fall.

What was that supposed to mean? Why would that stand there and not in one of the chapters? I shook the thought away and started reading. After the first chapter I was hooked. It was really good but a bit boring so far. Even though I wasn't much of a reader I liked it. The book was very well written. As I turned the page for the second chapter, there was nothing. Not a single word on the page. I frowned and turned the page but again there was nothing.
"That's weird," I mumbled to myself. "That can't possibly be it."
