A/N: THIS IS REALLY IMPORTANT FOR THE STORY!!! READ THIS!!!!!! Just to clarify, Ginko, in this story, is a bit younger than he is in the anime. I was suggested a pairing, which I wasn't planning on in the beginning of this book, so just remember that Ginko is around 15-17 years old in this story. That way this wouldn't be some 30 year old with a 14 year old. That would just be awkward... OK TO THE STORY!
Reminder to myself: Mushi name is Gyacanato.
Bold = english
Regular = Japanese
(Citus 1st POV)
I walked into town beside Ginko as people gave us strange looks, well those who were walking past us or outside in general. The weather was rather cold, so most kept to themselves inside. Well I guess that they didn't have many visitors due to their strange lake scenario. I wonder... do the Gina... Gya... You know what? Forget the name! I wonder of the lake - mushi - that - drag - dead - things - down - to - the - bottom - of - the - lake drag other people from outside the village down too, like it did to me.
We walked up to a house and Ginko was about to knock but a man with black hair and strange blue eyes opened the door. I looked around at the others in the village to see they had the same depiction. I thought all the Japanese had black eyes... or dark brown? Wait... how did I know that? I have only seen two Japanese people, and I am american... wait what's american? UGH THIS IS TOO CONFUSING!!!
"Who are you? Why are you in our village? The spirits in the lake are supposed to protect us from outsiders." said the man with the blue eyes. His wife was peeking out from behind a wall with two children.
"We are just travelers. This one", Ginko said, jutting his thumb out at me standing to his right, "fell in the lake through the ice. I managed to pull her out in time though." I scoffed at his rudeness, crossed my arms, pouted, and turned away like a spoiled child. It wasn't my fault! He is the one who lead us onto that stupid ice-lake in the first place. I heard him chuckle quietly.
"We do not welcome 'Travelers' here. If the people who come to our village fall into the lake, that must mean they are coming here to harm us." the man said, slamming the door shut and we could hear his footsteps tapping the floor.
"Well... that was a lost cause..." Ginko said, rubbing the back of his head. I hadn't noticed I had started shivering again. I felt around my neck to pull Ginko's scarf tighter, but it was no longer there."Yeah, duh, captain obvious" I said. "I think I lost your sc-scarf in the l-l-lake."
"Who is captain obvious?" He questioned. I sweatdropped.
"Ugh.... i-it's an expression. It means w-w-when you are being r-really obvious, like y-you are the c-captain of obviousn-n-ness." I said, shivering. "H-hey, w-we gonna start a f-f-fire or what? Cause w-we're not g-going to get a-a-anything f-from th-these villag-gers." I said.
He just grunted as we walked to the other end of the village away from the ice lake. There we set up camp and settled in for the night. Ginko provided us with the sleeping bags and even put a sheet of fabric over our heads to protect us from the falling snow. For some reason I remember how to make a fire.
"Hey, Ginko, do you have any matches? I n-notice you smoke, so you must have matches to like the cigarettes." I asked. After all, I didn't want to light the fire the old fashion way and be rubbing two sticks together without any result for hours. I am pretty sure I heard on TV..... wait what the hell? What is a TV? Any way, I am pretty sure that I heard that rubbing two sticks together doesn't work.
"Yeah. Here you go" he said, reaching into his coat pocket and pulling out a small paper box, made of brown parchment and tossed it to me. I caught it and started fiddling with it. I tried opening it how I remembered match boxes worked, where there was a box inside then a box around it keeping it sealed or something. But this one was different. The box on the inside didn't slide out when I pushed on one end. It had a flap that was easily opened and I instantly felt dumb that I didn't see that the first time.
I collected some sticks that were almost dry and dug up some dead grass to use as a fire starter. When I was finished making a little fire pit thing, I opened the flap and pulled out a match. I lifted up my left foot and swiped the head of the match across the bottom of my shoe, then watched it come to life. I put the match next to the dead grass and watched it spread. It crawled under the sticks and burned on the small tinder* that I put underneath the kindling**. I sat down next to Ginko, who was watching the fire intently. Soon, the flames dried the wood and started crackling as it started burning it.
I remembered something very strange. I was with a group of kids, around the age of 11 maybe, and we were around a very sturdy-build fire pit. There were cobblestones in a square surrounding a metal ring that was placed in the center. I could hear ducks and splashing, which indicated a lake was near by.
"When the wood crackles, it means the inside of it is wet. If it burns, it will eventually try off the inside of the wood, so we can use it" a woman with blond hair said. She had a chubby face, chubby arms, chubby legs - over all she was very chubby. I don't want to say fat, cause that is just sort of rude. There was a girl next to me who was a bit taller than me with crazy brown hair that she tied back in a pony tail.
I was pulled out of my daydream when I felt Ginko shaking me.
"You ok? You totally zoned out just now. Here, I bought this meat at the last town." I looked down and saw that he had a few small chunks of meat on a plate that were a bit overdone, black burt parts covering the edges.
"Thanks. I just was remembering something strange..." I said, my sentence drifting off.
"What did you remember?" He asked, splitting up the meat evenly so i got four pieces and he got four also.
"Well... there was this fire pit, and I would have to guess it was around fall because there were leaves around and everything..." I realized that what the girl said in my memory was not the language I was currently speaking. I also realized that I knew how to speak that language. Unnoticed by me, I started speaking that language. "There was a fire pit and a bunch of people. I was near a lake... and I knew I was near a lake because I heard geese on the water. There was a person around the age of maybe 40 who was teaching us how to start a fire." I stopped for a moment, taking a bite of the meat, then realized how hungry I was and started eating the rest at a fast pace. I looked up to Ginko and he was looking at me with surprise.
"What? I eat fast..." I said, but he just looked at me with a confused expression.
"What are you saying? I can't understand you..." He said, taking out a book which I guessed was a book of languages.
"Oh! Sorry... it's just, that was the language my memory was in." I said. "I think the language is called English or something..." I trailed off again. He flipped through the pages to the section labeled with the letter E.
A/N: Yes, in Japanese, English starts with an E. It is spelled Eigo or 英語.
"That language... it isn't listed in here..."
A/N Sorry for the short chapter, but I kinda wrote this in homeroom........
