"What should we eat, princess?" "What do you think, princess?" "Well, excuuuuuse me, princess!" "How are you, princess?" "I honour you, princess." No matter what the situation, ever since you were little, Link always called you that.
"Why do you always call me 'princess'? It's not like I'm an actual princess like Zelda." You asked.
"Oh, but you are. You're my princess." He said, winking. You shoved him playfully.
"Quit joking!" You laughed.
"I'm not joking! You're my princess, amd I'm your knight." He declared.
"Whatever." You said, rolling your eyes. You skipped ahead of him. "Come on! We'll be late for Zelda's birthday if you don't hurry up!" You complained.
"Race you!" He called.
"You're on!" You yelled, sprinting at full speed.-----
"You must protect her, Link." Grandpa Smith said.
"I understand, Grandpa!" You said.
"Do you really, Link?" He asked.
"Yes! Really!" You said.
"Do you love her, Link?" He asked.
"I do!" You exclaimed.
"Good. Then dedicate yourself to her. She is a princess, Link, and you must be her knight." He said.
"But she's not the princess. Zelda's the princess." You said, confused.
"Yes, but you and (Name) have a special bond that even you and Zelda do not have. You will understand when you're older." He said, patting you on the head.
"Okay, Grandpa Smith! I'll take really good care of her! I'll protect her! I'll protect her with my life!"-----
"I'm sorry, princess, I can't let you go." He said defiantly.
"Get off! I have to save them! Let go!" You screamed.
"There's nothing you can do, (Name)!" He said.
"No! Let me go!" You pounded your tiny fists against his broad chest.
"It's too dangerous! You almost died in there!" He said.
"Let me go, my parents..!" You cried, trying to wrest your wrists out of his firm grip.
"You can't save them!" He shouted. You sobbed into his chest, a blubbering mess. "You can't save them, (Name)." He said softly. "You can't save them, but I can save you right here and now. Please. Let me save you. Let me be your knight, princess." He said, rubbing circles into your back with one hand, brushing your tears away with the other. You cried in his arms, what was previously your house burning away in front of you as Link held you back. You sniffled.
"...okay."-----
You sighed as the moonlight cast a glow on her face. You counted each of her beautiful, perfect eyelashes as she slept soundly in your arms. You held up a hand and cupped her cheek.
"Good night, princess."-----
"Do you love me, Link?" You asked, brushing his bangs out of his beautiful face.
"Of course I do, princess." He said tenderly, brushing his lips against your knuckles.
"Do you love me as a partner, or as a knight?" You asked, hesitant on his answer.
"I love you as both. Both as my princess, but also as (Name)." He said, giving your lips a peck. And you were satisfied with that.-----
"You know, maybe we shouldn't go to the wedding." You said nervously.
"Why? What's wrong?" He asked, brushing your hair, weaving small flowers into it.
"What if... what if I'm not pretty enough?" You asked.
"What do you mean, princess?"
"Just... Zelda's so beautiful and you're so handsome, and her fiancé must be gorgeous, and everyone there will be so prim and... I feel like I'll stick out like a sore thumb.
"(Name), you're Hylian. No one's going to look twice at you. At least, I hope not. I wouldn't want to have to talk to people about how you're taken." He said.
"Oh, Link. Do you really think so?" You asked, turning to look at him.
"I know so. You're the most beautiful girl in all of Hyrule, princess. I wouldn't trade you for anyone else in the world." He smiled reassuringly, kissing you lightly on the cheek.
"Thank you. You always know what to say. You're the best boyfriend ever."-----
"(Name), I have to tell you something." Link said, eerily serious.
"Wh-what is it, Link?" You asked nervously. He was usually much more playful and light, not tense like this.
"Oh, goddess, where do I start?" He muttered. "Okay. Princess, we've been dating for the past 8 years." He began.
"We've been through hell and back. Throughout my life, you've always been right by my side, whether it was with saving the world or making breakfast. You and I have been through thick and thin, and I think it's about time I ask you..." You held your breath. "(Name) (Last), my best friend, lover, and princess. Will you... marry me?" He asked, pulling out and opening a small velvet ring with a beautiful (favourite gem) ring inside. You were in shock. You let out a gasp.
"...yes." You whispered. "Yes, Link, goddess, yes!" You threw yourself at him, peppering his face with kisses You propped yourself up onto his chest. "Oh, Link. You have no idea how long I've waited to hear that."-----
"Do you, Link, vow to love and protect (Name) with your life, for eternity?"
"I do."
"And do you, (Name), vow to love and care for Link with your life, for eternity?"
"I do."
"You may now kiss the bride." Cheers and screams erupted around you as the two of you, in that single moment, joined together in what would be many, many happy years to come.-----
"And so, the knight stayed by the princess's side for all of eternity, never faltering, never wavering, never faint, never failing. And they lived happily ever after. The End." You concluded.
"Wow! I wanna be a princess, too!" Your daughter exclaimed.
"I'm sure you will find your knight, Anthé." You said, stroking her hair.
"I want to be a cool knight like the one in the story!" Your son said excitedly.
"I'm sure you would make a fine knight, Dendron." You tell your son. Your sharp ears then pick up the sound of the front door unlocking. "Looks like Papa's home. Let's go greet him, shall we?" You took your children's hands, leading them through the hallway.
"I'm home, princess!" Link called.
"Welcome home, my knight." You pecked him as he came inside.
"Daddy!" Your children shouted, immediately tackling him.
"And how are you two today?" He laughed, scooping them up into his arms.
"Mama told us a story today about a princess and a knight!" Your son explained.
"Did she, now?" Link smiled knowingly.
"Yeah! I wanna be a princess when I'm older, too, Papa!" Your daughter squealed.
"Well, you'd better find a good knight then, dear." He said, kissing her cheek. He let down the children to go play, then took your hand and pulled you into a sweet embrace. "It's been a while since I've held you, princess." He said. You hummed, wrapping your arms around him, too. "Did you tell the children that it was a true story?"
"No." You replied. He chuckled.
"Of course. But you must tell them that the knight still serves his princess to this day, and will never stop, even when they are both dead and gone."
"Oh, Link." You whispered.
"I honour you, princess."
