It was a cold winter evening. The freezing wind was blowing hard against my face as I walked slowly down the icy path that led to the Fraser River. I tried to keep up my balanced on the ice covered ground, and I finally made it there after about ten minutes of walking. I bent down and felt the frozen river with my hand. I was freezing now because I didn’t have much clothes on, nor did it matter. Although, my reasons to be there might seem questionable to some, I knew exactly why I was there. I spotted a small patch of unfrozen water in the middle of the river; I didn’t know it would happen so sudden, and so unexpected. I screamed as I slipped and fell in the water. I yelled from the top of my lungs, maybe someone would hear me and would come to rescue me, but no one did. I flailed helplessly in the water, every fiber, particle, and hair on my body possessed a frosty glaze of sweat that flowed down my body in periodical droplets. I was in the position of immobility. Painfully I inhaled with the strength of my battered lungs, the aroma of the water re-entered my body. I decided to just give up and let myself drown. After all that’s all I wanted, during this cold winter. That’s what I was here for.

It felt like I was floating in air, a warm presence filled the area. I tried to speak, but I couldn’t. I flew around this strange place. Below me, I saw our town’s hospital, the amusement park which was nearly empty. There was always two couple waiting at the photo booth in the downtown mall. Everything was the same. As I flew in closer, I accidently flew too fast and went crashing into a wall, but I didn’t feel a thing. Instead, I went right through. In this room I saw them carrying my body; I saw myself lying there, lifeless. I began to sense the balance of reality that would soon answer the questions of my wandering. My body begins to quiver and my breathing quickened. I ran towards the door in fright of what I had just seen. I saw my two best friends outside, crying their eyes out. But, my parents were nowhere to be seen. I don’t know why, but I wasn’t sad, I wasn’t shocked either. I wasn’t anything. I decided to go back after I had recomposed myself. I watched as they tried to bring me back to life. They tried CPR, but that didn’t work. After several failed attempts, the doctors announced my death at 8:53 pm, January the 3rd of 2013.

Months earlier, I was a normal teenage girl. It was my 17th birthday. My best friends decided to throw me a party. I was never that much into parties, or my birthday. But, I decided to follow through since I always reject them. The next morning, I woke up by my dad side; He was sober for the first time since my mom had abandoned us, five years ago. He was in such great mood that he even forced me out of bed to take me out for breakfast. I washed up and rushed downstairs to meet him before he changed his mind. After some thinking, we decided to go to Shelby’s dinner. It was the best in our town, they were open 24 hours. They offered breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Pretty much the whole deal, I told him I wanted to seat in the back because we’d get less attention, and he agreed. We waited for about 15 minutes before a waiter finally came to get our orders. I’ve always been indecisive, but I automatically knew what I’d get, I ordered a full meal rather than breakfast because I was starved. The last meal I had was the lunch food at school which isn’t all that great if you asked me; then again that was over twelve hours ago. I’ve always loved their pasta, so I decided to get that with tender chicken and a raspberry lemonade tea, while, he ordered scrambled eggs, bacon, pancake and two muffins with almonds and a cup of cappuccino. As we ate, we talked about school, sports and laughed at yesterday’s episode of “happy ending.” For the first time in five years, I enjoyed my dad’s company. He had a glint in his eyes I’ve missed for so long. It reminded me of how close we once were, before my mom’s disappearance I had been a daddy’s girl.

After we finished eating, he told me he had to go to the post office to grab some mails. I stayed in

the car because he said he wouldn’t be long. When he came out, he’s mood changed totally, he seemed mad about something. I didn’t bother asking, I knew he’d snapped at me. The day was supposed to be perfect and I don’t want to make it any worst by getting into his business. I thought he’d mention it, but he just got inside the car and drove me home. He left a little while later without telling where he was going. I guessed it was the end of my perfect day. Around 2 pm, my best friends came to pick me up so we could decorate their place for the party. Surprisingly, a lot of people showed up to help, people I’ve never even met. I was still pretty skeptical about the idea, especially knowing my best friends. They’d probably have alcohol and drugs involve. I’m too young for that, I have never even been kissed.
