Chapter 5 Complications
Nickie's POV
"Jacob! Has anyone seen Jacob?" I run around the studio searching for the slacker. It was eight o'clock the next morning. Gordon fell asleep on my couch last night, so I left him a note, not wanting to wake him. I still feel a little foggy, but I have things to do. I notice Kevin is finishing up with Brad's measurements and I run over frantically. "Have either of you seen Jacob? He was supposed to bring the scripts and gave me some line about how he forgot them at home. He left to get them, two hours ago." Kevin gives me a sympathetic look.
"Haven't seen him. But luckily..." He pulls a bag out from under a table. "I was prepared." Kevin plops ten thick scripts on the counter. I am so grateful, Gordon is coming and all my tech crew. They have to have scripts. He knows how important the first blocking rehearsal is to my process, and I love him for it.
"Kevin, I could kiss you!" I frantically gather the scripts.
"But not Ramsey?" He smiles at me brightly. I laugh.
"Shut up, I don't see you with anybody." I punch him lightly on the shoulder.
"By choice. Besides, when do I have time, between making costumes and being your backup assistant I'm all booked." I laugh.
"Whatever you need to tell yourself, Kevin." As I turn to leave Ashley comes running up. She is one of my cameramen but today she is working with my actors for me.
"Uh, Nickie? You have a visitor. He's waiting in your office." I thank her quickly then sprint up the stairs to my office/somewhat bedroom. Today has already been hectic and we haven't even started filming! When I open the door Gordon stands with his back to me, admiring a piece of art I bought in Brooklyn.
"Beautiful, isn't it?" He jumps slightly then turns to me with a grin.
"Indeed, I always love a good watercolor. The paint adds depth to the piece, it's quite nice." He looks stunning as usual, in his dark gray button-up and black dress pants.
"Okay so I don't mean to rush but -well actually that's a lie. All we do here is rush. I need your opinion on our set. Follow me." I sprint out the door and down the steps, not waiting for a response.
"Hey wait! Slow down!" He laughs as he descends the stairs.
"You're going to have to speed up. Fast is how I work." I laugh as Gordon runs full force ahead of me. "Where are you going? You don't know the way to the set." He smiles back at me and stops.
"Well then by all means take the lead," He gestures for me to go ahead. I take off while he stands dumbfounded.
"Eat my dust." I stick my tongue out at him. He runs faster.
"Should have worn my sneakers today," He comments as we stop by the set. I giggle but feel a little woozy in my concussed state. It was worth it to see his shocked face as I left him in my dust.
"This is nothing. Wait until we start filming." I walk over to the set, gesturing for him to follow. "How's it look?" I walk around our kitchen set, noticing that no one has their props set. "Ashley? Where are the actors and why haven't they set their props?"
"Uh... a few are still getting ready?"
"They've had plenty of time, tell them to come out now."
"I already did. Josh says he'll be out when he gets out." I sigh.
"Ugh, not another diva. Gordon I've got to deal with this, want to come with?" He looks up from the counter and smiles.
"You going to call him an ass?"
