Chapter 1 : The Sky
Earth 2004
"Come on Ben!" said Susan, she was pointing and running toward something in the sky, "I wanna go see it up close". Today was just another ordinary day, I got up, I went to school, but when Susan and i started walking home the sky went dark. We knew there wasn't an eclipse today because our science teacher Mrs. Groff said that it was a week from today. That's when we saw it, it looked like someone threw a rock but it was a lot bigger, I was hesitant about going to it but Susan is pretty convincing. Susan and I are in 8th grade and it's the middle of the year but this friday was different then all the others, I could feel it. "Holy crap!" as I caught up to Susan who had gone into a dead sprint, we finally saw what it was. "We just ran like seven miles Susan! You're not even breathing hard!" I said panting. "It's all in the lungs baby, all in the lungs". In a massive dirt hole there was a rock about the size of a softball. It looked red hot. Susan eagerly ran up to grab it. "Wait, what if it's dangerous?" "Give me your shirt then." i didn't really want to take off my shirt but I also didn't want Susan to get hurt. As I tossed my shirt to her the rock looked cooled down. She dropped down the crater which was about two feet deep and picked it up when she crawled out she brought it over to where I was standing. As we looked at the rock there were five distinct stones. There were red, green, purple, silver, and black. Each stone was glowing. I immediately called purple, being my favorite color and Susan chose black. That's when I heard my friends behind me. As I turned around I could see my friends running at me. "Dude!" exclaimed Tony as Brian and John stayed quiet, they all tried to catch their breaths. "What are they?" "Mine" said Susan "Well, I want one" Said John. Tony and John are the best players on the soccer team, and they're twins. Both John and Tony have muscular builds. Brian doesn't get out that much so he's kinda pale. Brian is a a short and thin kid, but he's got a short fuse. "I call silver" said Tony. "Of course you would, cause you're used to second, and I want green, Brian you get red." "Ok, that's what I wanted anyway." " Hey Brian can you go get me your dads hammer, I'll try to break it." Susan said in the softest voice. "O...Ok Susan" Brian said as he started to run to his house which was the farthest away from where we were. "O...Ok Susan" Tony said mockingly "He likes you Susan" "You think I don't know that?" as she slammed the rock into the concrete doing nothing at all. "Let me try" as I took the rock from Susans hand, as I held it, a strange tingle shot up my arm. I shrugged it off. As I lifted the rock above my head, Brian ran over. "Wait" as he ran over with a hammer "let me hit it first." I handed him the rock. Strike after strike the rock held together. "Can I smash it now?" "Yeah" said Brian. This time when I grabbed the rock, the tingle was stronger, like if someone shocked you after rubbing their socks on a carpet. "Did you feel that?" "Feel what?" said Susan "Nevermind" as I picked the rock up over my head the tingle was stronger than before and as I slammed my hand down toward the ground we all watched in awe as a purple streak followed the rock to the ground. As the rock hit the ground it shattered into the five stones. "What was that?" said John. "I have no flipping idea, but it shocked me." "Well grab your rock" commanded Susan as she picked up the black one. My friends went and got each of theirs but I didn't move, I was grounded, so many questions, but Susan snapped me out of it when she told me it was already seven-o'clock. I quickly grabbed the purple one and caught up with the group.
