**Alice's POV**

"OFF WITH HER HEAD!!!!

"NO!! Please no!!" I woke up sobbing from the terrible nightmare,"no no no.." The sound of her voice rang in my ears with horrifying accuracy.  I grabbed onto the comforter of the bed and pulled it over my head, not wanting to face the dark room around me.  I closed my eyes wanting my nightmares to just end ,but as soon as I did I could see the Queen of Hearts' crazed expression burned into my memory.  I broke out into another round of sobs.

I felt a small weight on the end of the bed near my feet and felt it walk up towards the pillows. I didn't care what it was or really want to care, I was too wrapped up in my misery and fear to be worried about what had jumped onto the bed. As I was crying I felt the weight slowly increase until it felt like another person instead of a small animal.

"Shhhhh my dear, there is no need to be frightened. I am here to protect you." I heard a low voice say. Then I felt a strong hand snake its way around my waist and pull me into their warm embrace until our bodies were intertwined. My head was against their chest and they lifted it gently with their hand so that I could see my rescuer's face. It was Cheshire of course. He pushed back my messed up hair so my face was more visible and looked into my eyes.

"Dear kitten," he purred comfortingly, " dry your tears. It was just a bad dream. I vow on my life magic that it will never be anything more than that."
I whimpered and pulled my head down against his chest, in response he held me tighter until my hiccuped sobs died down into deep breathing.

"Alice you must try and sleep again. The dreams will not cease until you face them willingly," Cheshire said.

"I'm too scared," I whispered, "she's much more powerful than just a dream."

"No lovely Alice she is not, and if something happens I will be here. She will never get you as long as I am by your side."

"Do you promise not to leave?" I lifted my head to look at him, while I asked my question.

"I promise my dear." I smiled at him and put my head back down.

"Alright," I said, " but I'm not that tired anymore, how can I go back to sleep?"

"Let me help you with that kitten, look into my eyes, I can help you fall asleep in a most peaceful manner," Cheshire said calmly. I knew what he was going to do and I approved of him using his powers over me if I was in need of them. I lifted my head to meet his gaze and his bright blue orbs shone like lanterns in the dark bedroom. The longer I looked into his eyes the more tired I got and relaxed I felt. I soon got lost in them and let my head drop once more into his chest.

"That's it, let sleep overtake you. Go defeat the Queen of Hearts and I shall be here when you return," I barely heard him say it but it gave me strength.

".....I love you," Cheshire whispered, but I was already asleep.

That night I dreamed of a valiant battle, with the Cheshire Cat at my side the entire time.
