I woke up to Chase shaking me. I looked at the clock and realized that I had slept in again. I only had 20 minuts left to get ready for school.

I jumped out of bed and ran into the bathroom. I pulled of my clothes and threw them in the hamper before jumping in the shower. I turned on the water only to have freezing cold water fall on me. I moved out from under the water until it warmed up. I quickly washed myself, and felt slight pain when my hand passed on my stomach. I looked down and sure enough, there was still a slight bruise from last nights beating.

After my shower, i got dressed in darck blue skinny jeans, a green t-shirt and my grey convers. I ran down the stairs, jumping over the last three steps, and ran into the kitchen. I grabbed the lunch my brother had prepared for me, like ever other time I slept in. I shoved it into my bag and placed my bag on my back. I walked out the house and ran as fast as I could through the woods in my human form until, suddently, there was a big black wolf blocking my path. I skidded to a stop right in front of the wolf. I took a step back and staired at the wolf for a while before talking.

"What are you doing here Chase? You still have 1 hour beafore you nead to leave for you school. It's only 7:30." I asked him.

He whined and lowered his head, signaling for me to get on his back.

"Are you sure?" I asked him.

He barked, meaning yes. I walked over to him and got on his back. I wrapped my arms around his neck and my lags around his stomach, not pressing to hard so that I wouldn't hurt him. He turned around and started running as fast as he could. A normal human would have fallen off but with my super strength, I could easily hold on. We finally arrived to my bus stop about five minutes later and I got off of Chase's back. He walked behind a tree and shifted. A few minutes later, he walked back to the side of the road where I was standing dressed in baggy light blue jeans, a black t-shirt and his favorite black vans.

"Bye, big sis. Have a nice day." He said

"Bye little bro. You too have a nice day. Be carfull." I told him, before he tuened around and walked back into the trees.

I waited another five minutes before the bus arrived. I got on and I sat in my usual seat in the back of the bus. I thought about my brother, understanding why he wanted to come with me to my bus stop and why he decided to walk back home in his human form instead of running back in wolf form. He wanted to spend as much time away from the house and our abusive father. Less chances of him getting beaten. I just hopped that our father would sleep until he leaft for school.

I was pulled out of my thoughts when someone sat in the sst in the spot next to me. No one ever sat with me. I looked up and saw the new guy, Hunter. I looked out the window and saw that we where still in the woods. I thought we where the only ones who lived in the woods. Humains usualy always stay in town, to scarwd of the rumeurs about the woods. That is why no body ever spoke to me. They where to scared of me because I lived in the woods.

"Hey." He said, smilling.

"Hey." I answered.

"How are you?"

"Good you?"

"Good thanks. I didn't get the chance to ask you yesterday, but why are your eyes red?"

"It's a birth defect." I lied.

"Oh, cool! I wish I had red eyes like that." He said

My eyes where another reason people where scared of me. They used to be a dark brown until my first shift. It was very rare but it happened sometimes. A young pup would shift for the first time and there eye color would become permanently the same as there wolf's eye color be it in human form or in wolf form. Thow I had no idea why it did that. Usually, the eye color would change from human form to wolf form to make it easier for us to blend in with humans.

"No, you don't. It's a living hell." I said.

"Oh, ummm........ Ok..... Do you want to talk about it?" He asked.

"No." I said.

There was a ackward silence for the rest of the bus ride to school. When we arrived, we got off the bus and walked into the school. We walked to our lockers and grabbed our binders.

"I'm going in math. What about you?" He asked.

"French." Was all I said.

The bell rang and I started to panic. If the hall emptied and I was still here, Jade was gonna get me again.

"I better go. See you later Jess." Hunter said, oblivious of my panic.

"O...ok." I said.

He walked away. I looked around me, and my heart skipped a beat. I was already alone. But Jade was no where to be seen. Maybe I could still make it to class before she got me. I started running as fast as I could without usimg my super speed since it was to dangerous to be discovered if I did. My french class was at the other end of the school. Luckily, our school is small so I can still get there on time. I ran down a hall and turned a corner. I ran down a secound hall and turned another corner but as soon as I turned it, I was tackled to the ground.

I felt a hand slide into my hair before my head was yanked back only to reveal Jade. She drew her other hand back and I closed my eyes, waiting for the punch I knew was coming. After what felt like an eternity of waiting and nothing happened, I opened my eyes and was shocked to see that someone was holding Jade's hand, stopping her frompunching me. No one had ever steped up to help me before. I tried to see who it was, but I couldn't see over Jade's shoulder. There was only one thing going through my mind at that moment. Who is helping me?
