Upon reaching Destin, there wasn't any of those "Welcome" parties or a single "Welcome!" for that matter. Uncle Percy apparently had to work overtime and couldn't pick me up. Tears pricked at my eyes. "Stay strong, Devina," I whispered to myself, "I'm alone at a beach, total freedom, this is gonna be a hell of a time." I thought sarcastically.

I hailed a cab and was on my way to Destin's Ferran Hotel, where Uncle Percy worked as a hotel manager. A perk of that was that he got to live in a hotel free of charge! Hmmm that high life.

At the hotel, a man in a suite with short brown hair, a tall frame, greeted me, "Devina!"

"Uncle Percy...?" I asked hesitantly. I've never seen pictures of him around the house so I never knew what he looked like.

"Yeah, it's me," he smiled, crow's feet showing up around his eyes. Uncle Percy seemed around 50. Strange, for my 17 years, that I've never heard of him ever.

Uncle Percy enveloped me in his arms. Ah, finally some love. Maybe this place wouldn't be so bad after all. I smiled up at him, my 5 foot short frame barely reaching his shoulders.

"I'm sorry I couldn't pick you up at the airport. We're kind of understaffed right now so I had to work overtime." Uncle Percy apologized. Seeing the sincerity in his eyes, I smiled, "It's alright. I don't want to impose."

"Oh, speaking of which, I will be out of town for a hotel convention for the next two weeks. I hope you don't mind me leaving you alone here?"

I swallowed. "Sure no problem," with a forced smile on my face. Maybe it is going to be just as bad.
