Catherine Pov (Alice Mom)

''I think it's time to tell Alice we won't be able to have a family time over summer vacation.'' I said. I was on the couch with my husband, Allen.

''I don't think i am ready for that yet. She will be very glum(sad).'' Allen said.

''But we have to. We are leaving on Monday. It's better to tell her now or she will hate us for not telling her earlier.'' I said trying to give him a point.

''Okay. But you go first. I am going up there in a minute.'' Allen said while going to the kitchen.

I rolled my eyes and decided to go upstairs. Once I made it to Alice room. I knock on it and opened it.

''Hey baby girl.'' I came in and started making my way to Alice. I bend down a little and kiss her forehead. I then sat down on her bed looking at her.

My baby. I thought. Such an innocent child.

''Hey mom. What do you need?'' She ask me getting curious.

I know I couldn't break the news to her all alone. So I decided to call Allen to help me break it to her.

''Allen. Get in here!.'' I yelled.

I waited a few seconds to wait for him to replay. Boys and there food. I thought.

''What!'' He said clearly annoyed.

''We have to tell her.'' My mom sighed.

I could hear his foot steps coming closer and closer. I heard the door slightly open revealing an Allen.

''Oh.'' My dad said not knowing what else to say.

We both were giving each other eye treatments. We didn't know how to tell her. It hurt us how our business trip have gotten in the way of our family time. Every year she would wait until school is done so we could spend time with her. But every year we would say no.

''Tell me what.'' She said getting more curious to what we wanted to tell her.

''Sweetie.'' I started. ''I know you been waiting all summer to spend time with us like a family. But I'm afraid that we can't.''

Once those words came out of my mouth. I saw Alice face fell down. Which of course broke my heart. Like what kind of a mother wants to see there child down.

''Where are you two going this time.' She said with a frown on her face.

''Your father and I are going to a business trip. I am so sorry baby.'' I said then I came over to her and hug her tight.

I could feel her tears falling down on my shirt. ''It's okay.'' She muttered. If I wasn't close to her. I wouldn't probably have heard her.

''We have good news to.'' Allen finally spoke up. ''You won't be home alone this time. Basically you won't be home at all''

I could tell that her face lit up by the sound of that. Every year we will go somewhere, and Alice would be home alone with nothing to do.

''You'll be staying with our old childhood friends, Grace and Adam.'' Allen said. ''They also have a son your age.''

''Oh.'' Alice said getting sad all over again. ''A son.'' She muttered.

We are really bad parents. I can't believe that we are the reason that she's so glum.

''Its going to be alright sweetie.'' I said getting up to leave. ''Pack your stuff cause were leaving on Monday.'' I said then left the room.

I started walking back to our room. I know Allen is behind me because I could hear his foot prints. Before I even step a foot in the room. I felt myself being pin up on the wall.
