Once upon a time there lived a King and Queen. For years they had longed for a child, then to their delight, the queen gave birth to a baby girl. Great was the rejoicing at the royal palace and throughout the whole kingdom.
As the king and queen gazed fondly at their beautiful little daughter they felt their happiness was complete.
"We must celebrate our baby's arrival with a great banquet here at the palace!"said the king. And we must make quite sure to invite all the good fairies in the land, added the queen for she hoped that each one would give the baby a gift that would help her in life.
