prologue

"Daddy, I'm scared." I say as I tug on his shirt.

"It's going to be okay Rebel, just keep running, you'll be safe soon."

I listen to him and try to keep up with his pace, even though it's hard. I look back to see some men with black uniforms and guns trying to stop a crowd of normal people like me and daddy. My parents never told me why all of this is going on, they think i'm too young.

"Okay, Reb, get in there." he says pointing to some type of hole in the ground. A bunker? I think that's what dad called it.

"But what about you?" I ask.

"I have to go help those people, I'll come back in no time." he answers with sadness in his eyes.

"Promise?"

"I promise."

I kiss him on the cheek, hug him and then run in the bunker. I sit on the ground next to a woman and start crying.

"Hey, shh, don't cry. It'll all be okay. What's your name young girl? I'm Cassidy." she tells me smiling slightly.

"R-Rebel."

"That's a beautiful name. How old are you Rebel?"

"4."

Her eyes fill with sadness.

"What's going on out there?" I ask her.

"It's complicated."

"But I want to know!" I say pouting.

"Okay, well, it all started when a man named John became king. Do you know king John?"

"I hate king John. He took my mummy."

"I know, I hate king John too. I'm sorry about your mum."

"Okay, go on."

"Well, at the beginning, everything was fine, but then John started to feel like he needed more power-"

"Power?" I interrupt her.

"He wanted to...um...control everything and everyone. He didn't like the fact that other people but him had a say in everything too, so he tried to do everything on his own, and people didn't like that. So they're protesting."

"And after all of this ends everything will be fine again?" I ask hopefully.

"Yes."

"Why are we hiding here?"

"Outside we aren't...safe."

"My daddy is outside." I say getting scared.

"He knows what he's doing. He's out there to save us from king John."

"To save us? Like a superhero?"

"Yes."

"My daddy is a superhero!" I repeat happily.
