Glossary of terms.

People

Gabriel Olivia Redfern - A powerful huntress who bears the two swords. Shade and Fury.

Lisa - A gentle huntress and also a good friend of Gabriele. Lisa's sword Darkness is said to house the soul of a beast long dead and forgotten.

Nicholas Maine - One of the youngest of the hunters and a member of the Member of the Watch. His katana is called Devour.

Tasima Waterblack - The bastard daughter of King Nemar. She has above average reflexes, a high healing rate and an ability to see the Gates. Tasima is part Daarie and part human.

Jason Waterblack - The best friend of Tasima with a mischievous streak. Jason is part Ryóshi and part human. A bloodline that will see him immediately executed if he attempts to swim in the ocean and the kingdom of queen Thesa.

Fayln Goldfang - A sorcerer in king Nemar's employ.

Chiara - A mysterious paladin or soldier who trained Tasima and Jason to defend themselves. She's not been seen since Tasima's fifteenth summer.

Kalin Sunflare - Tasima's halfbrother and future ruler of the Sun Quarter. Kalin is full bred Daarie

Nemar Sunflare -The current ruler of the Sun Quarter and Tasima's father.

Ary Gossamer - A Maas who displays above average intelligence and one of very few who have learned to lip read.

Raziel - A strange but beautiful woman who appears to be manipulating everyone around her. Raziel works on a favour system, demanding high payments for services rendered.

Other - A being that appears to reside within Raziel.

Khaya - The reigning Champion of the Arena, and a hybrid.

Ruus Ariad - A famed explorer of Baravuth who wrote a book on the abilities and traits of hybrids. It was banned for nearly three decades.

Flight Eaglewing - The next to inherit the Throne of Four Winds and first publicly announced royal hybrid.

Shizuka - Mother of Princess Flight and wife to king Canaan. Shizuka is of Japanese decent.

Canaan - Father of Princess Flight and husband to queen Shizuka. Canaan was the first of the four rulers to abolish slavery in his kingdom and create a haven where hybrids could go without fear of slavers. He is seen by many as the first of the abolishers. It has however, lowered his worth in the eyes of the other three rulers.

Orin Greycoat - Cousin to Kalin Sunflare and second in line to inherit the Throne in Splendour. Duke of the Quicksands duchy.

Margaret Chapel - Gabriele's Guardian. Margaret has trained, and raised Gabriele from a young age. She is seen as an oracle by many Hunters because of her extensive knowledge of Baraklei and their habits.

Thesa Greengil - Queen and current ruler of the Wet Quarter.

Magenta Greengil - First born child of Thesa and (now dead husband) Eder. Magenta is curious and brazen.

Xaden Iseth - Stern but fair commander of the king's Elite guard, the city guard and the king's army.  Xaden is well known for his infallible logic and his seemingly inability to smile.

Pillia Hira - Xaden's lieutenant and trusted right hand companion.  A former mercenary now employed in the Palace in Splendour.  Pillia has a harsh tongue, but a gentle heart.

Sursesea Rubyquartz - the ruler of the rock quarter.

Ashaa - A good friend of Tasima and Jason and a barwench in the Black Sunrise Inn.  She is friendly and observant.  She is an operative working for Raziel.

Nico Gayaruse - The owner of the Black Sunrise Inn.  Nico is flamboyant and an observer of most rules.  Nico is one of the first inn owner to employ hybrids as his bar staff.
