When Sylar began walking in the opposite direction to the car, Chrissie stopped in her tracks, “Where are you going now?”
Sylar turned around and shot his new ‘prize’ a steely glare, he’d get no-where if she insisted on asking questions every five minutes, he crossed his arms and gave her an appraising look, “I can’t decide whether you’re extremely brave or just plain stupid.”
Chrissie shuddered under his intense gaze, her mother would be home soon and wondering where she was, she didn’t have time for this, “Call me what you will but I don’t intend on scouring the Earth for this ‘Dr Sushi’ or whatever his name is. I’m going home.” Chrissie spun on her heel and took a few casual steps…before her feet became glued to the concrete.
Purposeful steps sounded behind her as blind panic settled over her, a voice as smooth as silk surrounded her, “If you think you can just walk away,” her body was made to face him by an unseen force, his dark eyes met her golden ones with wicked intent, “then you are strongly mistaken.”
Sylar leaned in, “You want to know who those men were back at the school?” Chrissie inwardly flinched as he gently caressed the side of her face and pushed her hair behind her ear, he leaned down slightly so that his face was level with hers, and lowered his voice, “They want to lock you up in a cage and pump you full of drugs. Trust me, you need my protection.”
Chrissie’s brows drew together as she studied his face, “You’re lying.”
Sylar chuckled and ruffled her hair as if she were a naïve child, then, as if a switch had been flicked, he turned serious, “You have no idea what guys like that do to guys like us.”
Chrissie gritted her teeth, “There is no us. Iam nothing like you.”
Sylar placed a hand on her shoulder and gave her a patronising look, “That’s where you’re wrong.” His hold on her shoulder became a vice-like grip as he pulled her toward him, at the same time his other hand grabbed a chunk of her hair and pulled back so that her throat was exposed.
Chrissie scrunched her eyes shut automatically and yelped, “What are you doing?”
His breath was hot against her ear as he whispered, “I’m reminding you that I’m the one in charge, and I just so happen to know that you live with your mom alone. Wouldn’t it be awful if something were to happen to her?”
Chrissie’s eyes widened, “You wouldn’t.”
She could hear the amusement in his tone, “Oh Chrissie, what on Earth gave you that impression?” He let go of her hair and watched as she messaged the back of her head, then he tilted his to the side, “Of course I would.” Then he grabbed her by the wrist and pulled her along behind him.
As the two of them wound their way through the now crowded streets, Chrissie developed plan after plan of escape opportunities. If there was one thing that Chrissie couldn’t tolerate, it was being dominated by another person. And threatening her family? She didn’t take that lightly. If he thought threats were going to make her more pliant, then he was sorely mistaken.
But she needed to be sneaky about it. She couldn’t just run away because he’d proven that his ability made it impossible. But if she could just keep her eyes peeled for a window of opportunity, then maybe she could, not outrun him, but hide. That might just work.
Before long they came to an extremely ordinary door which Sylar pulled open using his telekinesis, then proceeded up the staircase to one of the higher floors, although which one precisely, Chrissie couldn’t say. She was too busy taking note of all the fire escapes and cupboards.
