2 Years Later

Adam did end up applying for the divorce, and we went through with it. It wasn't nasty, or difficult, or strung out. It was quick. It was painless. Since he moved to mainstream Sydney, we got a complicated shared custody deal. He would get the kids during the summer, spring vacation, and after Christmas, while I would get them during the school year and up till Christmas. They would fly to Sydney Christmas Day, after we opened presents at my house. In the end, I won the old farm house without much haggle, because, after all, he wanted to move to Sydney and didn't really need the money. That baby, the one I was 5 months pregnant with when he told me he was leaving me? It turned out to be a boy, who I named Lucas Rhyder, as a compromise with Adam, as I didn't particularly like James, despite what I said before. Now, the twins are 7 and 2, Luke is just learning to talk. I've heard talk in the gossip magazines that Adam has been hooking up with random girls, for month long stints, then leaving for a tour, and never going back to them. I wish I could comfort them, hug them, and tell them it's going to be alright. That he wasn't worth it. As soon as Luke is old enough, however, I too, will be leaving on tour, of course bringing the kids with. By then, the twins will be ten, old enough to watch their little brother for several hours in a hotel room. Of course, my agency will get them tutors, as required. Or maybe I'll go on a summer tour, but that doesn't really draw in my kind of audience. Not as much as a winter concert. At the moment, 7 year old Daniel knows piano fluently, and is picking up guitar. Acoustic, not electric, like Adam. He's more peaceful and quiet than his rowdy father. Kathryn is enrolled in soccer, and the coach recently told me that as soon as she's old enough, she can try out for the National Team. Luke, well, 5 year old Luke is a bundle of clumsiness. He has no idea what he's doing at most times, but is happy all the time. He does have good singing voice, even at a young age. You can hear him when he hums to himself out in the backward, watching the butterflies or playing in the dirt. I didn't remarry anyone, at least not yet. I went on one date with one guy, and it didn't end well. I just, I guess, aren't motivated to find anyone new to start a life with.
