Hope arrived at school right in schedule. Hope, Cecilia and Hannah paraded up to their palace. She could feel eyes burning a hole into her back as usual, and she smiled in satisfaction. She loved all the attention she got from all her peers. They treated her like she was a princess, even if she did make a small mistake here or there. Even the teachers gave into her devastatingly good looks and charisma. Hope knew how lucky she was to have so many people fall at her feet, but sometimes it felt overwhelming. She always felt the need to live up to everyone’s expectations of perfection, and the simple fact was…she wasn’t perfect by a long shot.

As the teenage kids made a clear path for the three beautiful girls to get to the entrance doors, Hope suddenly felt the absence of her best friend Courtney. She has called Hope just before she left and told her she was getting a ride with Brenton .Hope shuddered at the name. She tried to shake off the feeling, not wanting to seem penurious or needy but she couldn’t help it. Hope was so used to having her friend’s presence with her every morning that it was now starting to bother her.

Courtney received her first boyfriend this summer, and ever since she couldn’t seem to make time for her friends. Hope knew that Courtney needed to spend time with her boyfriend, but now it was getting ridiculous.

They finally made their way to the doors and to Hope’s locker.

“I see someone’s trying to impress Michael today,” Cecilia said giggling.

“Ugh shut up,” Hope demanded as she put in her locker combination. Hannah and Cecilia watched as Hope retrieved the necessary items from her petite locker.

“Ugh here we go,” Hannah suddenly spat under her breath, rolling her sapphire eyes.

“What?” Cecilia questioned looking around confused.

“Robert,” Hannah and Hope said in harmony.

“Gosh when will this kid take a hint that I do not want him?!” Hannah said aggressively.

“Well I don’t know Hannah, he is pretty cute, and he’s the quarter back of the football team…” Hope suggested closing her locker.

“Ehh I prefer lax boys,” Hannah said winking. They all chuckled and watched as Robert slowly approached them. He was eyeing down Hannah like he was a critic and she was a stunningly built sculpture. He shooed off all of his friends and stopped right in front of Hannah.

“So uh—“ he was cut off by a sudden punch on his shoulder and whistle. He looked down in embarrassment. Hannah crossed her arms impatiently and flipped her long blond hair away from her face.

“You wanted something?” she said with sass dripping from her voice.

“Uh… yeah,” he said looking up timidly. She cocked her head to the side and gave him a fake smile, “I was just wondering if you wanted to go out to see a movie or something sometime….” His voice shook somewhere in the middle of his request.

Ha!” Hannah said rudely and Robert jumped in response. She quickly covered her mouth and widened her eyes, “Oh I’m sorry! I’m just… kinda seeing someone right now… so I’m going to have to pass,” you could hear the false sympathy in her voice. Cecilia looked at Hope with misperception written all over her face. Hope discreetly shook her head hoping she would get the hint, and not ask questions. They both quickly looked back at Robert and realized he saw their wordless conversation.

“Oh really? Who…?” he suspected.

“Uh…” Hannah stammered. She looked around nervously, trying to think of a name, “Buster… Buster Hymen” she said quickly. Hope and Cecilia looked down and tried not to laugh.

“There’s a Buster in this school?” he questioned clearly missing the hidden joke in the name.

“Oh yeah, he’s a senior and all mine,” Hannah lied and winked, “Sorry Robby! But if Buster and I weren’t a thing I would seriously consider you!” Hannah bit her lip trying to seem contrite.

“Okay…” Robert ferried his eyebrows and walked away slowly. Once he was out of hearing distance they all broke out into laughter.

“Buster Hymen?! Good one,” Hope said giving Hannah a high five.

“Hey babe!” a voice sounded from behind them. Hope turned around and saw her dazzling boyfriend. He looked exponentially hot today. He wore a light blue t-shirt that matched his amazing eye color and faded blue jeans. His blonde hair was in a perfect quiff that was lightly blowing in the breeze from the open lobby doors.

She smiled and wrapped her arms around his neck lovingly.

“Hey babe I missed you!” she said kissing his nose lightly.

“I missed you too! You fell asleep on my last night,” he teased poking her stomach teasingly.

“Yeah I’m sorry about that… let me make it up to you,” she bit her bottom lip and pressed her lips up to his longingly. He moaned and wrapped his arms around her waist. She smiled behind the kiss knowing she had him under her spell. She teased him a little with her tongue and he pulled her closer. She heard somebody clear their throat but she ignored it and continued to kiss Michael.

“We’ll just leave, I guess…” Cecilia trailed off at the end.

Just as Hope could feel the desire boiling in Michael’s blood she pulled away and smiled innocently.

“Wow, I definitely forgive you,” he winked and released her waist.

“Figured you would,” she said leaning against the locker. Michael followed her action and looked at her wistfully, “So how was football practice,” Hope asked trying to break the silence.

“Well… ugh where do I begin? Freaking Doug was being an asshole as usual and…” Hope smiled and pretended she was listening. She loved listening to her boyfriend but sometimes the simplest questions turned into a full on rant with Michael.

Her eyes wandered slightly when she noticed a boy with a map facing away from her. For some reason she wanted…needed to see the boy’s face. She patiently waited until he faced her. He finally turned around and looked at the room number above the closest door. Her heart stopped and she could feel her pupils dilate. Her heart was thudding against her rib cage as she watched him look at the map in his hands. He struck her with an unexpected feeling of desire, happiness and nostalgia. He had wavy hair that stopped right above his eyes brows and lovely sun kissed tan skin. He was tall and thin but so attractive, so strikingly attractive to her. She was in a daze and her heart was still pounding in her ear drums.

He suddenly looked up and took notice to her watching him. He stopped dead in his tracks and let people bump him aggressively as they passed. She could see he was having the same reaction she was to him and she couldn’t seem to pull away from his stare.

“Hope… Hope… HOPE?!” Michael snapped her out of the stupor. She shook her head and looked at Michael in confusion, “You okay?” he asked grabbing and gently rubbing the side of her face with his thumb.

“Yeah,” she admitted as her heart returned to its normal rhythm.

“Good you scared me for a minute there hun,” She looked back at the boy and he was gone. She sighed and looked at her feet in disappointment, “Come on let me walk you to first period,” he suggested. Hope nodded her head and grabbed his hand and walked to English without another word.
