A/N: Sorry! I know it has been forever and this is really short but I promise that I will upload again in the next day or so! Enjoy!
He began pacing the room shaking his head. Why had they not taught her? Wait. What if….That was it! “How old are you?” Juliana couldn’t see why it really mattered.
“I’m seventeen…what does that have to do with anything?”
“You’re of age. He wanted me to tell you. But why?” He muttered, still pacing. “Juliana, how did your father die?”
“Now see here! That is hardly an appropriate question! How could you even dare ask me such a thing?”
“I know that it is a hard thing to speak of but you must. I must know how he died.”
“Why?” she asked, tears pricking her eyelids.
“Because I believe that he was murdered. I believe that he knew of his sure demise. I believe that he wanted you to discover the truth through me. To not be afraid. Because I believe that your father was and still is trying to over throw the Covenant.”
“And just who is The Covenant?”
“A group of very powerful men whom have locked me away for centuries. The men who are the very reason that you forgot me. And my dear Juliana, the men who killed your father.” Her face had turned a ghostly white and William feared that she might swoon. He hadn’t meant to push her so hard but he had to know if the Covenant was behind this. And just why Renaldo had not warned dear Juliana of him. More gently he probed, “ Juliana, I know this is much to comprehend but you must tell me. Please.”
Tears rolled down her lovely face as she began to speak. “He was shot through the heart. An arrow from the wood next to the well.” A stifled sob racked her small frame but she continued on. “I wasn’t feeling well that day and he-he had gone to gather my favorite berries that grow there. “ She hung her head in shame as if she were the very murderer who aimed that fated arrow. Great pain filled William as he watched the strong-willed girl stand in front of him so broken. Slowly, he closed the space between them and wrapped his arms around her allowing her to pour out her pain against his strong chest. In that moment, he hated the Covenant more than he ever had. Not just for locking him away and keeping the only happiness he had left from him but for killing the only man who’d ever shown him affection and causing Juliana such pain and self-blame. But why? Why would they kill Renaldo? The whirlwind of questions swirled through his mind leaving him more confused than before. Juliana had finally managed to ebb the flow of tears and looked up at him. “What do we do now?” she asked. What do we do now indeed.
