A light so bright that it hurt people's eyes and set fire to the night had flown around the Earth for several months now. It didn't stay long in one place; it was like the light was looking for something. It was large and multi-colored, with pinks, blues and other magnificent colors dashed across it like a messy paint job.
It had been hovering around New York for a while now, about two or three days. None of the citizens had a good night's sleep either, as the night had turned into yet another bright day.
The Astronomy professors living in New York had deemed that the ball of light was in fact, a meteor. That started another round of new speculations from the imaginative peoples in the city.
A few days later, the meteor mysteriously disappeared, and the humans all around the world just forgot about it, seldom mentioning it in fear of jinxing its disappearance.
It was a relief for the meteor to disappear. Every night was transformed into day, and no one could get a wink of sleep. Unless you were a vampire, that is.
But as always, the peace didn't last long. The meteor rose again, this time seeming to rise from the heart of the earth.
The stone didn't stay long. One night it
winked out for a few hours, then ignited again with twice as much force, exploding into thirteen little pieces in the process. The pieces were scattered all over the earth, each color into a small, shining rock. One was in an office, one was in an apartment, one landed in a retirement home... you get the idea.
It would be a chore to find all those pieces.

An obsidian black shard flew through the night, unnoticed. It shattered the glass in a lone warehouse, and into the office of a masked person.
It was the Dark Hades, the leader of an dark, dark organization hell bent on killing specialized people.
He smiled, a cruel, dark thing true to his name, and let the meteor shard shatter against his chest, knowing it would bring him greater power to avenge someone dear to his death. The shard dissolved into little particles of black dust, and melted into the middle of his chest.
His assistant, Hugo, barged into his office as the Dark Hades sucked in a breath of the remaining black dust particles.
"Milord, the meteor has shattered into thirteen pieces, and the black piece should be arriving here soon!" Hugo panted, exhausted from the long run from the watchtower to the office.
The Dark Hades laughed. "Hugo, no need to worry. The Black shard has arrived already, and has become one with me. Can you feel the raw power, Hugo? Can you feel my lust for revenge?"
"Y-yes, Master. What can I do for you?" Hugo stuttered, feeling the dark tendrils of hate emitted from his Master, slithering through the room, pushing against his skull, as if to twelve into his thoughts and corrupt them until he becomes a mindless zombie.
"Bring me the remaining 12 shards' hosts in any way you can. If you succeed, I will reward you personally. If you don't... let's just say you won't like the results. You are dismissed." The Dark Hades twisted on his heel, the new lighting giving his face a evil, menacing look.
Hugo's legs shook, and he slowly backed away to the door. "I w-will not disappoint you, M-master." He rushed towards the door, desperate to escape the grasps of his Master.
Before the heavy French doors shut, he heard the Dark Hades breathe, "Do not disappoint me, Hugo."
With a gulp, Hugo ran from the. hallway of the office, back to his living quarter, determined not to let his Master down.
