Alex washed up the last of the dishes they used for dinner, and put them into the dish dryer.
He grabbed his favourite sneakers, and put them on while yelling to his mother, "Mom! I'm going out!"
Mrs. Radcliffe just grunted, engrossed with her favourite magazine, while his father answered, "Okay, son, just come back before curfew!"
Alex snorted and rolled his eyes, hating even the mere word of "curfew".
He strolled out of the apartment leisurely, and let his thoughts drift. His birthday was coming soon, and he thought of what he wanted as a birthday present.
A new sports car? No, too expensive.
A new I-phone? No, already got one.
A second chance with Kaitlyn, his ex girlfriend? He found his mind wondering.
No, no, no. Kaitlyn hurt him too bad for him to give her a second chance. He found her cheating on him with his best friend since diapers, Everest, in his very own bedroom.
His mom had let them in, thinking that he wouldn't mind them going in his bedroom, as they had a lot of times, but only when he found them going at it like rabbits, clothes halfway off, scattered on the floor, did he learn about them having an affair for 5 months already.
He broke it off with Kaitlyn that day, but his heart broke also. He loved her, but she took his love and punched it to next week.
Alex shook his head to get rid of the thoughts about his ex girlfriend, determined not to let his high spirits drown with all that obviously unrequited love.
He looked up, wanting to see the stars, but instead of twinkling stars, he saw a red shard that he immediately recognized as the blood red part of the meteor.
The shard was flying down with force, and within the seconds that it took Alex to react from his shock, it had dropped into the centre of his chest, dissolving into small, red stardust that was swept away by the wind, like the evidence to a crime that was taken away.
Alex's vision faded dangerously dark, and he fell to the lure of unconsciousness, silently crumpling on the sidewalk.
