The opened windows beside me made way for the wind, as it gently blew on the face of the male sitting in front of me. His strands of hair rustled in the cool breeze, dancing along with the whistling wind. He tilted his head and turned to the side, having more of the nature's breath to mix with his own. We were in the middle of an English class, our line of seats placed nearest to the east wall. I stared at his side profile. His brown eyes were close enough for view, his porcelain skin was in my reach to touch.
A hint of smile got away when I saw that one side of his lips tilted upwards. His long eyelashes that anyone would be proud to have fluttered as he blinked. Twice, I counted, before glancing towards me over his shoulder. "What are you staring at?" He mouthed, looking at me up and down as if to judge my stalker-ish behaviour. Having caught off guard, I rolled my eyes before they landed back on those caramel ones. I scoffed. Of course, I was wrong to think that this guy had some kind of pure boy image going on for him.
"I wasn't staring!" I exclaimed in hushed whispers. He stared at me for a while before smirking and releasing an amused sigh. "Don't deny it," He combed his hair back with his fingers, "if you stare too much, hearts will pop out from your eyes before you know it." He whispered back, batting his eyelashes at me and pouted his lips in attempt to imitate girls staring at their love interest with love-struck eyes that you would always see in dramas or animes.
I raised my fist to hit him in the head but something- no, someone decided and managed to knock both of us out of it. "Byun Baekhyun, Park Mira, what are you two doing back there?" Both of us turned towards the source of the not-so-amused and stern voice to meet Mr.Lee, our English teacher standing at the very front. He was gripping the sides of his waist, his eagle-like eyes stared at us as if he was ready to catch his victims with his talons.
I gulped, not knowing what to say and glanced at Baekhyun - who probably had the exact expression as mine at the time - for some help. Mr Lee wasn't the teacher assigned for Head Discipline for nothing and I was sure that if someone didn't save us out of this, we would be in very, very big trouble. Besides, the whole school knew of the golden rule: 'Do not talk while Mr Lee is teaching if you do not want to die soon'.
"M-Mira couldn't see something on the board so she asked me what it was, sir." He stuttered a bit but managed to keep a calm demeanor nevertheless. Mr. Lee shifted his gaze at me before returning to Baekhyun, narrowed his eyes, then nodded. He proceeded to explain the things he finished writing on the board to the whole class, with me and Baekhyun releasing our held breaths and let out relieved sighs simultaneously. We both kept our heads to the front, not wanting to get caught in Mr Lee's attentive eyes again when something lightly tapped at beneath my desk.
I ducked my head slightly to find Baekhyun's left hand extended towards me from underneath so that the teacher couldn't see it.
He wriggled the fingers of his opened palm and I smiled, gripping his hand gently instead of slapping it for a high-five as to not make any audible noise. "Good job," I whispered. I let go of his hand with his still dangling in mid-air for a good moment when he brought and landed it onto his desk. Still staring at the male in front of me, I could see his shoulder rose a bit as he leaned forward to the front. I chuckled, shaking my head before looking out the window.
The sun seemed to be shining brighter than usual that day.
-----
I knocked on Baekhyun's bedroom door after being welcomed in to his house by his mother who told me Baekhyun was waiting for me upstairs in his room, as usual.
By the third knock, the door was suddenly swung open revealing Baekhyun who was wearing sweatpants and a white t-shirt. His disheveled hair and half-opened eyes were decent signs to tell me he had just woken up.
"Hey," I greeted and casually made my way over to his room. "Hey," he greeted back before flashing a tired grin. "You finally...learned how to knock." A yawn was let out between his words and I stuck a tongue out at him. "Yeah, well, wouldn't want to see you in your underwear again." I grimaced at the memory of walking in on Baekhyun barely putting on his underwear two days before.
The male, however didn't seem too bothered about the incident. "We've bathed together, what's the big deal?" He said as a matter-of-fact and shrugged. I blushed a bit and threw a pillow which had him off guard and hit his face. "As kids, you mean!"
His face contorted in pain at the sudden hit before throwing the pillow back at me which I slapped away to the floor. He didn't seem to be satisfied with me successfully avoiding it so he threw another one at me, which I slapped away again. He pouted before walking to his bed. "Kids or teens, what difference does it make?"
I rolled my eyes. "Huge difference."
"Yeah, like what?" He sat on his bed and raised an eyebrow at me who was sitting on his computer chair. I blinked, trying to come up with something.
"Like..." I couldn't come up with an appropriate answer at the time so I just pressed my lips together and looked down at my feet. "...Like, something, I guess? Anyway, that doesn't matter. What do you want to do today?" I avoided the question before I said something lame because Baekhyun would've loved teasing how lame I was.
He blinked at me a few times before chuckling as he scratched the back of his head. "I don't know, isn't it your turn to decide this time?"
Right, I had forgotten that. Baekhyun and I made it our routine to spend the weekend together since years ago and since we always couldn't decide where to go or what to do, we decided it would be better to let him decide for one weekend, and me the weekend after. And so on.
I rubbed a finger on my chin. Last weekend, Baekhyun decided we go to the cinema and watched some horror movie which made him jump and screamed a lot of times, I had a lot of time making fun of him for it. The weekend before that, I decided we went shopping. I hummed while drowning myself in thoughts about places I may have wanted to go lately.
Nothing came to mind at the time when my eyes spotted his game consoles. "Uh, how about we just hang out here, play games, and go to the park later in the afternoon?"
Baekhyun raised his brows at this before smiling brightly at me.
"Sure, whatever you want."
