Eric was all alone in the dining room. The inspector had long gone and the rest of the Birlings were sound asleep. Drinking away his feelings and fears, Eric thought not of Eva, but of Gerald.
A cough echoed around the room, startling Eric. The port glass fell from his sweaty grasp and shattered, but Eric ignored it, his thoughts remaining on the source of the disturbance. He lifted his head to face Gerald Croft.
Eric's cheeks tinged rose as he quickly shuffled to an intact port glass. Whilst pouring a new drink, he could feel a gaze upon him; Gerald's. Their eyes met and lingered for a few seconds before Eric turned away, blushing once again.
As Gerald stepped closer to Eric, a blinding flash shot through the dimly lit room.
Ssssssssssssss
A barely audible sound drifted through the window, sending a shiver down Eric's spine.
Both men stood in silence before moving to the window in a frenzied scramble. Gerald drew back the curtain in one large motion. There, outside, lay something not even Priestly could've predicted.
