"Mom, i don't want to go." I hated how much I was whining, I was eleven years old for gosh sakes.

"Kait." She said sternly, and waved her hand towards the old guy waiting to lead me off to children's church.

My mom was church shopping, again. I swear we never went to the same one twice.

She had made me get all dressed up in a fluffy (and scratchy) party dress with little high heels. Luckily, my hair was too straight and fine to do anything with.

I followed the guy outside and into a building behind the church. As soon as he opened the door I realized exactly how out of place I was.

A crowd of about twenty other children, all my age, stared at my dress. They were all dressed casually in jeans and sneakers, and here I was the new kid, who looked like I was ready for Easter Sunday.

I managed to squeak out a 'hi' after the two Sunday school teachers made introductions.

A skinny redheaded girl scowled at me, as well as a girl with dark hair.

"You can sit with me!" A beaming brunette patted the folding metal chair beside her.

We didn't learn about god that day, it was more like a kids club.

Everybody was working on getting a karate patch for caravan (think cub scouts) and were breaking boards of wood.

Or rather, one boy was more than anyone else. He had blonde hair and bright blue eyes, and he kept looking over at me, but I figured it was just because I was new.

"Alright, Kaitlan." The caravan leader,Mr.Dan attempted to instruct me on breaking the board, but I was frightened I would hurt my hand.

"You can just kick it." He offered, but I shook my head, my butt slamming back down into my chair.

"Alright, Tyler, you can have this one." The blonde boy got up again, breaking the board neatly and giving out a whoop of satisfaction, fistbumping the redhead girl.

I'll admit I was rather rude to the children that day. I felt extremely out if place, and I knew I wouldn't be here next week, so why bother try to make friends anyways?

The girl next to me attempted polite conversation, but gave up once she realized I wasn't interested.

We spent about an hour watching the other kids goofing off before caravan was finally over.

"I'll see you next week?" The girl next to me smiled.

I frowned. "I highly doubt that."

I stood up, leaning against the wall as I saw the other children's classes ending, and the endless streams of children coming out the doors.

My mom had told me she'd come collect me, so I just waited.

Nearly half the children had already left when I saw one last class coming through the door.

A skinny little sandy blonde haired girl wearing a sponge Bob shirt with a yellow mustard stain made a beeline for me.

"Can I tell you a secret?" She whispered, cupping her hand which made me crouch down so I could hear her.

"Um, sure?" I asked warily.

"My mommy left me and my sister and my daddy." And with that, the little girl began to tell me her whole life story.

Her name was Skyla, she was nearly five, and she loved Lightning McQueen.

I never did find out why she came to me, the weird outsider, to tell me something that no one else knew besides her dad and grandma knew.

I don't know why she trusted me before she even knew me, and I'll probably never know why we were inseparable after that.

All I know, is that after talking to her, I wasn't upset the slightest when my mom told me we were going back.

Little did I know then, how much two little girls would change my life.
