"But Father, you cannot stay here!"

In anguish the raven haired child clung feverishly to her fathers' leg in hopes to drag him with her to no avail. Sparking blue eyes glazed with tears met the warm hazel of her father before he sunk infront of her in a crouch.

"Child, I have no choice. These men, they are nasty people hunny and I have to keep you safe."

A calloused hand drew itself across her shoulder before pulling the girl into a comforting and departing hug as all that could be heard were the child's quiet sniffles.

"But daddy, what about you?"

The man simply withdrew himself from her before casting his eyes to the emerald tree-line, as shadows of men began to emerge.

"You must run - now! Remember ' it is true courage to run in the face of uncertainty, then to perish in naïveté.'"

With that, he ushered her from him into the forest behind him and gave a wry smile before turning to face the oncoming group of men whom had breeched the clearing, to descend upon the single man. The girl had seen a tinge of crimson lacing their eyes before she turned and fled as her father had commanded.

The small girl could only weep in despair as she fled from the scene, only to be silenced by a single, perishing scream that shook the foundations below her and rippled the waters surrounding her.

A short tease into the background of our young girl! This is my first WW story and feedback would be duly appreciated! Leave a comment and a vote and I'll write again soon!
