Chapter Three- Clio

I wake to yelling. What the?
I open my eyes to see that my mom and dad are in the kitchen. I slowly a quietly walk towards the kitchen.
"What do you mean by you're leaving?" My dad asks my mom
"I'm done. I can't take it anymore. I tried to work things out with you but nothings working. I want a divorce and I'm taking Clio with me."
It's about time my moms taking action. I knew this was coming. Dad has been abusing mom for months now.
"No I won't sign the papers. You are mine till death do us part."
"David enough.You will sign the papers even if I have to get a lawyer involved."
"What do you think Clio is going to say when she finds out that you and her are moving? What about her friends? Did you think about any of that? I mean today she saved a girls life!" My dad spats.
"I think she would say that she would be fine. Daddy I need to get out of here. The bullying has only gotten worse at school. I only have two friends, one of which is in the hospital. I think I'm going to go see her. I'll have Alexa drive me. I'll be back home soon. Mom can I talk to you side for a minute? Please and thank you." I say while walking towards my room.
I go into my very small room and grab a pair of my volunteer shoes that I wear at the hospital. I slip them on and head downstairs.
I walk out the door and my mom follows.
"What's up sweetie?" She asks.
"Mom I know what's been going on between you and dad. That's why I agreed so quickly to move. Yes I'm going to miss my friends, but It's better for you to be safe than for me to keep my friends. I can always meet new friends, but would never be able to take not having a mom." I say with tears in my eyes.
"Shh baby, everything will be fine. I promise. Now why don't you go talk to Alexa and see if she will give you a ride to the hospital. Okay?"
"Okay."

Alexa takes me to the hospital where I meet Dr.Webber.
"Hello Clio, nurse Alexa. What can I help you with?"
"Hello Dr.Webber, I came to see Lily. Is she okay?" I ask.
"Clio I think we should go talk in my office. Alexa why don't you go clock in. I know you're on call tonight and we are going to get slammed soon. There was a building fire on South Street." She says.
"Alright. I'll go clock in. Clio if you need scrubs, I have a pair of yours in my locker." She states with a smile.
"Okay, thank you for the ride. Lead the way Doc."
I follow Dr.Webber through several of the long corridors that are practically my home after school everyday and to her office. It's the third door down the fourth corridor.
She opens the door and motions for me to take a seat. I sit down and he he sits behind her desk with a poker face on.
"Cliodhna, Lily she's in... She's in a coma. We had to do an emergency surgery on her spinal cord. We don't know when or if she will wake up. If she does wake up, she's going to be paralyzed from the waist down. We informed her group home of her being in the hospital. Now all we can do is wait and pray that she wakes up."
I start to cry and she comes over to me and hugs me.
"Can I... Can I see her?" I ask.
"Of course. Come on she's on the third floor in the ICU."
I follow him sullenly up to the ICU. I have never been on the ICU floor before, but I know that it's never a good sign.
'Just breathe Clio. I'm sure things will get better. You just have to trust the doctors.' The voice states matter of factly.
I really need to learn the name of the voice. It's always there for me, the least I could do was call it by its name.
As we reach the ICU Dr.Webber starts to explain what I need or more like want to know about Lillian's case.
"So is she in a medically induced coma or did she go in a coma during the surgery?" I ask.
"It happened during her surgery. We think that because of the fluid around her spinal cord. It caused her to go into a coma." she states.
"Okay, is Angela still here or did she go home?"
"She's still here, but because she's not family she can't go in to see her."
"Can I take her in with me? She is just as much a friend with Lily as I am. It only seems fair." I sate slightly annoyed.
"Clio you know the rules. Visiting hours are over and now only family is allowed in the room. The only reason you're allowed to go in is because you are here to learn and gets some inside work before you leave for med school at the end of the year.
"But technically we are the closest thing to family. I mean she considers us her family. Since she is in a group home," I say exasperated.
"Alright I'll bend the rules just this once since she has no family." Dr.Webber agrees.
"Thank you so much. I really appreciate it and I know that Angela will."
She gives a small smile and leads me over to where Angela is sitting with red puffy eyes. She's definitely been crying.
"Angela" I whisper yell.
"Clio what's going on, why won't they let me see Lily?"
"Angela, you need to calm down and listen to me. We are going to go and see Lily, but I must warn you that she is not okay and there not sure if she ever will be. She is in a coma and if she ever wakes up from it she is going to be paralysed from the waist down." I say quickly and quietly.
"What happened? She seemed fine other than the broken leg and having the seizure!" She cries.
"They think it happened during the surgery they found fluid around the spinal cord and it caused her to go into a coma. Now are you ready to go and see her?"
I really wish I could make this easier on Angela. She was closest to Lily.
We walk into Lillian's room we both climb into the bed with her and cry. As we calm down I decide now's the best time to tell Angela about the move.
"Angela, I know now probably isn't the best time to tell you this, but I thought it would be better rip the bandage off fast instead of slow. I'm moving. I don't know where yet, but my mom needed to get out while she still could and wants me to come. You know what goes on in my house."
"I knew this was coming. I'm just glad that you and your mom will be safe.Just please try not to leave the Washington" Angela says sullenly.
I whisper to Lily and then tell Angela it's time to go.
"You want me to see if Alexa will give you a ride home? She's going on break."
"Ya I guess. Text me when you find out where you're moving to. I love you girl don't ever forget that."
'I won't ever let you forget your best friend' The voice states.
We travel home in silence thinking about everything.
As we arrive at my house I say be to Angela and thank Alexa.
I open the front door and my mom comes down the steps.
"Clio, pack a bag, we're staying in a hotel tonight to let your dad cool down. I will tell you where we are moving to then." She states anxiously
I run up to my room and grab my duffel bag. I throw my silk pj's into it along with a shirt and a pair of jeans. I also throw in my scrubs incase I volunteer at the hospital tomorrow.
I go back downstairs and meet my mom at the car. I get in and as she pulls away she starts talking.
"Cliondhna, we're moving to Byron Bay, Australia to live with your grandmother." That's all I hear it before I black out.
