"Happy birthday to you. Happy birthday to you. Happy birthday dear Mahogany. Happy birthday to you." My parents whisper walking into my room. "I can't believe my baby is already eighteen years old. It feels like just yesterday I was coming home from the  hospital with you." My mom says wiping her tears and kissing my cheek. "Not to ruin this beautiful and emotional moment that's gonna make me cry next, but get up kiddo we have a surprise for you. But first you have to get dressed and accompany us old people to dinner, our treat of course." My dad says snatching my blanket away. I groan but get up. "Where are we going though?" I ask tying my hair up. "Well if we told you we'd have to kill you." My Mom says winking. Ugh I swear my parents are so weird. After finally getting ready they drive me to the park where we'll be having my party. We have it at the park every year. Then we go to the rec center to swim. Its extremely repetitive and annoying. But I smile anyways. After greeting everyone and hearing 'happy birthday' a zillion times its time to open presents. Everyone gets me pretty much the same thing. Clothes shoes and money. Its hard to smile and act surprised when its all the same stuff. I thank everyone and set my gifts to the side. Everyone starts eating when I get a phone call. I look at the caller ID and smile.
Incoming call from: Shawn DA Bomb Mendes
"Hey Mendes! What you up to?" I ask smiling . "Wishing a beautiful girl a happy birthday. Did you know you and Meghan Trainor have the same birthday?" I roll my eyes and scoff. "I'm just kidding. So the big 1-8. How's the party going?" He asks. "I wish you were here. I miss you and Aaliyah. You guys are the life of the party." I say smirking. "I don't know if I should be proud that you listen to my music or hang up on you for being extremely lame. I'm gonna go with the second one." He says before hanging up. "Jerk." I mumble before calling him... And going straight to voicemail. I sigh and put my phone back in my pocket. It's my eighteenth birthday and my best friends aren't here. They had to move back to Canada for Shawn's career. Its so amazing watching his dreams come true. I'll never admit this to him, but I watch all of his interviews and listen to all the radio broadcasts. I even bought his album, even though he told me not to. I just want to support my best friend in his dream. It's also because I might have a small crush. Ugh who am I kidding. I am madly in love with Shawn Peter Raul Mendes. I miss him. I pull out my phone and open the YouTube app. I type his name into the search bar and his Stitches video pops up. I hum along and close my eyes. I just want to fall asleep right now. I feel someone flick my arm and I mumble for them to go away. A few seconds later they poke my shoulder. "Go bother someone else." I mumble. Less than a minute later I'm being lifted up and thrown over someone's shoulder. I try to move and he tightens his grip. The cologne is hella strong. I groan and give up. I slump over his shoulder and watch his walking. Then I see something on his sneaker that makes me squeal. Mahogany is bae "SHAWN!" I shout squirming out of his grip. As soon as my feet hit the ground I'm swept off of my feet in a hug. "I should've known it was you. Only you would feel the necessity to annoy me first. Okay, now to the important stuff. WHAT THE HECK ARE YOU DOING HERE?" I shout when he puts me down. "Did you really think I would miss your birthday? I've never missed your birthday. Even when it snowed that on year." He says smiling down at me. Stupid tall people. "Where is mah bae? Did she come with you?" I ask looking around. "MAH BAE!" Aaliyah shouts hugging me. We hug and squeal for a while before Aaliyah says something that throws me off. "Shawn canceled his last tour dates to be here." She whispers still hugging me. "Why would he do that?" I ask. "He is in love with you. Like a lot." She says giggling before shoving me in his direction. I land in his arms and blush. "How nice of you to drop in." He says winking. I watch his eyes flick to my lips the back to my face before clearing his throat and letting me go. We both stand there awkwardly staring at our feet before my mom announces that the party is over. Everyone says their goodbyes and wishes me a happy birthday and disappears. "So how long are you gonna be here? I need a warning before you leave for six months without a goodbye." I say fake glaring at Aaliyah. "Seven months. Two weeks. Five days. Eight hours. Forty seven minutes. And thirty seconds starting now." Shawn says shrugging. "Now its time for the real party!" My dad shouts before ushering us all into the car.
