"Persy! Get down here, your breakfast is getting cold." My mother shouted.
I got ready for today. I had everything planned. Nothing was going to ruin my birthday today. I ran downstairs. There was a massive plate of eggs, sausage, and waffles. I sat down in front of the plate. I loved when my mother made me breakfast. She only does it when its my birthday, a holiday, or whenever I am upset.
"This is all for me?" I asked with a hint of sarcasm.
"It's your favorite, right?" She answered. "How'd you sleep last night? Get plenty of rest for tonight?"
"Yea, I guess. I know I had a dream last night, but I forgot what it was about." I always have these strange dreams that I don't remember. The strange thing about them is that I remember them once they come true. Almost all my dreams I've had, came true.
I looked out the window, pondering on what I could've dreamt of. It was then that I realized that I heard a familiar tune being sung by a blue jay. I couldn't remember the name of the tune, or where I first heard it. As the blue jay finished, I heard something drop on the table. A necklace. The most beautiful one I've ever seen.
"Mom, did you put this here?" I asked.
"No, I thought you left it there. It's very beautiful." She replied.
I wondered where it came from. I had a feeling that something wanted me to have it. It even looked familiar. It was a long, thin piece of metal with a red jewel in the middle. It looked like it could be used as a key. I put it on as I left for school.
As I arrived at school, my friends surprised me with gifts. "You guys didn't have to do this, you know?" I told them.
"Its not everyday you turn 18. Besides we wanted to get you gifts." Anabelle said
Anabelle has been my best-friend ever since I met her my sophomore year at Bedford. It feels like we've been friends way before we met though. I felt like I already knew everything about her before we even met.
"Besides, this isn't the only one you are getting from me." Maeve said. "Your other present will be presented at your party tonight."
Maeve I also met my sophomore year. She was the school's new girl the previous year. She moved all the way from Beverly Hills due to her Dad's job. It makes you wonder why it would bring him to a town that is so small.
"Now, I am curious." I said as I opened my present from Anabelle. She gave me a pocket knife. I always had wanted one, but my mother never approved. " I've always wanted one. Thank you!" The pocket knife had everything in it that I was looking for. The cool thing about it, was that it was also a necklace. "Where did you find this?"
"Well it was hard trying to find something that you would like. I only got it yesterday, for free too. Some stranger came up to me and just gave it to me. She said, 'Here, you will need this. Give it to your friend.' Exact words."
"You're lying. You made that up."
" No joke. It's the truth."
" Enough story-telling. Open mine now." Maeve said. I opened the box she gave to me. Inside was a bracelet. It was a pocket watch. "I put it on a charm bracelet, that way it would be like a normal watch."
"It's beautiful. Ive never seen anything like this before!" I exclaimed. "If this isn't the best present you're giving me then I am afraid what you got for me later." I put their gifts on. They were thoughtful gifts and they made me feel at home. "You know, I'm glad that we are friends. Otherwise I don't know what would happen if we haven't met." I gave them both a hug.
