Waking Up

Chapter One: Waking Up

All I could see was black, I tried to open my eyes but I couldn't. Then I felt my hand go warm as someone squeezed it. I tried to open my eyes as much as I could but I still felt incredibly tired. I then heard voices coming from beside me, these voices were very familiar.

          "I know, you don't need to tell me twice!"

          "Well hurry up then!"

          "I just don't want to leave her."

I tried to open my eyes again. I did it but I couldn't see much, my vision was blurry. I moved my head to the side to see if I could make out the figure stood beside my bed.

          "Oh my god! She's awake! Joe! Get in here now, she's awake."

I realised who it was that was next to me, holding my hand.

I tried to speak, "Tyler," I said.

          "Shh, don't talk. Save your strength." Tyler answered.

          "W-What happened?" I asked. I couldn't remember what happened, but somehow I had ended up in a hospital bed.

          "Oh, you don't remember do you?" He sounded worried.

          "What?"

          "Joe! Get in here now!" Tyler shouted. Joe was my step brother, my mum had remarried but got divorced a few years ago, me and Joe treated each other like real siblings would have and we still kept in touch even after our parents split up.

Joe ran in, "What? What is it?" He asked.

          "She, she doesn’t remember what happened." Tyler replied

          "What! What happened? Tell me!" I demanded.

          "Joe, tell her." Tyler told him.

I looked at Joe, waiting to be told. "Well..."

Joe looked down at his feet, "Well, how much do you remember?"

          "Erm, I remember it being 16th October, but after that it's just blank." I answered.

          "October? Oh, well thats not that bad. We'll just have to get you to remember, shouldn't be too hard I mean that was a month ago." Joe said.

          "Wait what date is it?” I asked.

          "It's 23rd of November 2012." He replied

          "2012? What! I meant October 2011."

He looked worried and then answered, "What? Really? You've been under for 2 weeks and can't remember anything up to over a year ago. This is worrying; we need to get a doctor in here."

          "What!? Why? Just tell me what happened." I demanded again.

Joe looked at Tyler and then back at me, he took a deep breath before replying. "Ok, if you really want to know then I’ll tell you. But I’ll have to start at the beginning."
