Prologue
In everyone life span there is one person you consider to be the,"Devil" or the, "She-Devil" if you choose to be gender specific. This is a story about the She-devil who ruined a girl's life because she absentmindedly took everything away from her.
The She-Devil's name is Ashley and her renown enemy's name is Sarah. The honest fact was Sarah never meant to hurt Ashley, as a matter of fact she was scared of her. Ashley had a reputation of hurting people who tried to take her spot at the top of the food chain. She looked good if you weren't in her way. Ashley was constantly partying and was known for having many friends. Sarah was just a quiet artist who enjoyed the little things in life, she tried to avoid any drama because it just wasn't her nature to be involved in that life style. Sarah had a few close friends in their large school but mostly kept to herself. That is just a little back story before we get to the good part.
Chapter 1
Sarah parked her car and turned off the engine. It was the beginning of senior year and there was so much to do before the year was over. She stepped onto the ground and sighed to herself. If only school was a good place to be... Only if I could stay in the art room all day... She thought to herself as she walked closer to the front door. Her steps were fast and her books were held tightly to her chest as she walked through what felt like a mile of judgmental eyes on her. As soon as she reached for the door Ally was by her side.
"Sarah!" a girl screamed as she embraced Sarah. Ally. One of Sarah's close friends. She smiled as they parted the hug and walked into the school.
"What's your locker number Al." Sarah said quietly.
Ally pulled out her schedule from her back jean pocket and searched for the number until she found what she was looking for, "742" she said slightly distracted. She folded the paper, put it back in her pocket and pointed in the direction of the locker.
As they walked whirls of colors and smells of new perfumes illuminated the hallway. Once they reached her locker Sarah began looking for her own locker, number 768. She walked down the hallway a little farther and found her locker number. Luckily it was an even number which meant it was a top locker. She set her book bag down on the ground and began unpacking it.
Down the hallway Sarah heard yells and laughter. By the time she could look up to see the commotion the group of the most popular people in the school came running through the opening of the doorway. Ashley looked at her a paper in her hand and looked at the lockers to find her number. 770. Sarah froze. She knew Ashley's reputation was bad which made her stay clear of her. This is going to be a rough year if she is next to me. Sarah thought to herself. She began unpacking things into her locker again as Ashley walked up.
"Sarah! How are you? I haven't seen you all summer." Ashley said giving her best attempt at being nice.
"I'm fine, thank you." Sarah said quietly without looking up from her locker.
"That's good. Well I hope to see you in some of my classes this year. It seems as though we haven't ever had many classes together. Maybe that will change this year I suppose." Ashley said shrugging and walking away.
Sarah put her head up against her locker. She dreaded this year already. Now it just got ten times worse. Ally walked up beside Sarah as she picked up her backpack.
"Wow, already taking the likes of the 'She-Devil' I see." Ally said with a sarcastic smirk.
"Don't you dare... It's already bad enough we have to share the same perfume-bombed air... Let's not associate her as a so called friend. We all know what happened to the last girl she took a liking to." Sarah said as they walked down the almost empty hallway.
Chapter 2
You must be wondering about the other girl Ashley once took a liking to. Well long story short, she had to move schools and she lost her boyfriend and her all her friends. It was a sad year for her. Ashley let her get in her way then when she became a problem, she simply got rid of her. I guess you could say it was pretty heartless. Most people thought so as well but were to afraid to speak up.
The art room was quiet first period which was the way Sarah liked it. The bell had not rung yet but she was eager to get started. Sarah had a great relationship with the art teacher, Mr. Davidson. The teacher was relatively young. He had been teaching since he graduated college which was only three years ago. As a freshmen, Sarah was in his class his first year. She saw him as a good friend and a mentor. Sarah sat at his desk in his chair and put her feet on his desk. He smiled at her then went back to writing on the board.
"Am I going to be your Yearbook assistant this year? You know since I am a senior this year. Oh, not to mention I have begged for the place since I was a freshmen." He gave her a sideways look. "I do recall you saying last year that I was the only candidate in the senior class for it and since only seniors could have the position I figured you could go ahead and name me." She said slowly standing up and walking to the rack of portfolios.
"Sarah, I know I told you that you were the only candidate in the senior class, but I have to offer it to others as well or I will be accused of picking favorites." He said still writing instructions on the board.
"Aren't you choosing favorites anyways? I mean you get to choose who's work you like best." She shrugged looking for her portfolio.
"I have to give others a chance Sarah, I have already explained that. You must understand that. Surely you do." He said looking up at her. He gave her a sad look.
"Don't look at me like that. You know I wouldn't ask if I knew I wouldn't win. I already know I'm gonna win... but the thing is, I hate competitions and I won't put my work in if someone else tried to go up against me. You know that makes me nervous." She said sitting at her table and pulled a piece of unfinished art work out of her portfolio.
"My hands are tied Kid. There's nothing I could do." He said trying to lighten the mood by using his chosen nickname for her. "Come on, if you give me your best work, I know you'll win. Like you said, you already know the outcome so why are you so worried about it. Plus you can hand it to me after class or at the end of the day. No one will even know you handed it in."
"Until you announce the winner." She said rolling her eyes at him.
He sat down next to her and sighed. "Sarah, you art work is the best I have seen come through this school. Even though I haven't taught here for long doesn't mean I don't know things. Just try, please, that's all I ask of you."
The bell rung and Sarah turned to her work. Suddenly there was a bang and the door opened. Ashley and a new student walked in together. "I'm so sorry we are late Mr. Davidson. I was just showing Joshua around the school. He is new this year and I wanted him to feel welcome."
Of course, she wanted to be the first one to talk to an attractive new student. I'm not surprised, Sarah thought. Ashley walked near Sarah and smiled.
"Sarah! Oh, I had a feeling we would have classes together this year. It's gonna be an interesting year."
"It sure is." Sarah said looking at Mr. Davidson.
