Chapter 3
After art Sarah had psychology which she fortunately didn't share with Ashley. Joshua was in her class though. Of course she would never openly talk to him. She was too scared. She silently watched him. He didn't seem like the kind of guy to want to be around people like Ashley. Maybe he would come to his senses for his own good and reject them. They might not be happy about it but it would be his best option.
Sarah tried to distract herself by listening to what the teacher was saying. She refocused her gaze on the white board located at the front of the room. Her teacher was going over the procedures of the classroom like most teachers on the first day of school. Her attempt at focusing on other things soon failed when she caught eye contact out of the corner of her eye. She looked in the direction of the eyes and low and behold, Joshua, was staring right at her. He quickly looked away and coughed to himself. Sarah blushed. She hadn't expected that.
The bell rang and Sarah pulled herself together. Not daring to risk eye contact again she quickly exited and walked to her third class. Third and fourth period went by fast. Sarah made her way to her locker and met Ally at her's. It's lunchtime and senior get the privilege of leaving campus for lunch. Ally linked her arm in Sarah's and they walk to find their other close friends.
After lunch Sarah finished her nest two classes without a problem. Both her fifth and six periods had all of her favorite people in them, including Joshua. Seventh period was a different story. Ashley of course had to come back and make the day a little less joyful.
Ashley walked into the class and sat right next to Sarah. "Not as many classes as I was hoping we would have together but two is better than nothing, right?" she said politely.
"Yea, I guess." Sarah smiled half- halfheartedly. Not only does she have to ruin the beginning of my day but the end too. This is the last period and I'm done. I can do this. She silently motivated herself.
Seventh period went better than she expected. Ashley was preoccupied by the boy sitting next to her, as expected. After that, Sarah had a study hall eighth period and she decided that she didn't need to stay to do homework so she had early dismissal which means she got to go home early. She packed her stuff in her locker. She hugged Ally and headed to the door. She signed at the sight of her red jeep. She could finally go home.
Chapter 4
She got home and looked at her phone. She had two messages. One from Ally and one from Ashley. ASHLEY... why is she texting me. She set her backpack down in the corner of the room and sat on her bed. Out of curiosity she opened Ashley's message first.
HEY! IT'S ASHLEY... I'M HAVING A BACK TO SCHOOL PARTY AT MY HOUSE ON FRIDAY NIGHT AND I WAS WONDERING IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO COME. RSVP PLEASE.
Sarah's eyes opened wide and she panicked. How did she get my number? She open Ally's message hoping she had been invited too. She was scared to turn Ashley down. If she had someone to go with maybe she could bare it.
SARAH! ASHLEY JUST ASKED ME FOR YOU NUMBER. I'M SORRY I CAVED. I WAS SCARED. SHE DIDN'T SAY WHY SHE WANTED IT. I WANT DETAILS TOMORROW MORNING... GOT IT? LOVE YA.
Sarah lied back on her bed and put her pillow on her face. Why would she want me to go? Sarah thought. she lied there on her bed for a while trying to fathom the events that happened today. Why was Ashley taking such a liking to Sarah? Why now? Sarah had been attending the school since 9th grade so what makes her so appealing now.
Sarah let of a frustrated sigh and sat up on her bed. She grabbed her backpack and pulled out her homework. She tried to focus but became restless. She was stressing, but over what? The most popular girl in the school finally realized she existed, the new boy who was super cute was caught staring at her. Why did that make her uneasy?
After struggling for about half an hour, Sarah stood up and grabbed her camera. The weather was still nice out, so she decided to go take photos outside to take her mind off things. She walked down the stairs, past her mother who was in the kitchen. Her mother didn't look up from her paper.
"Hi, Sweetie. How was your first day?" She asked consumed by the paper she was reading.
"Weird, good, but weird." Sarah said sitting on the bar stool next to her.
"Weird? What was weird?" She asked refocusing her attention on Sarah.
"Well, you remember Ashley?"
"You mean the one who got that girl expelled. The one you told me about last year?"
"Yes, that's her. Well we have a few classes together this year and she seems to know who I am. Not in the kind of way that like you have a new student and you heard of her but the kind of way that she has known me really well for years."
"So Ashley all of a sudden sees you as a close friend?" Her mother asked confused.
"Yes, and that's the weird part. She also invited me to her back to school party on Friday night." Sarah sat her camera on the counter and walked into the kitchen. She opened the pantry and grabbed a granola bar.
"I think you should go."
"Mom, you can't be serious... you never let me go to parties like that especially if I could potentially get injured."
"Sarah, your'e a senior in high school. If you think you might want to go to the party, I think you should."
"What on earth has gotten into you, Mom, she scares me, let alone the fact I'd have to be more social than I already am. I mean, come on, do you actually think I could pull off being a social butterfly?" Sarah asked sarcastically.
"Sarah are a beautiful young woman, you need to at least give yourself a chance." her mother said standing up and kissing her forehead. "I have a date tonight so don't wait up, there are leftovers in the fridge if you want them. If not you can get food for yourself. I love you. I'll be home by 10."
Sarah looked at the clock. 5:48. She watched her mother grab her purse and walk to the door. When she reached the door she turned to Sarah and winked. "I think you should go, but who am I to judge?" She shrugged and laughed and closed the door. Sarah sat there for a moment and thought on it. How bad can it be if the hostess wants me to go. Maybe it will be a good thing like mom said. Plus if she doesn't have a problem with it neither should I.
