Aoka sat in her seat in the Academy. She was tapping her foot, and had her arms crossed. To anyone else, this would be a normal gesture of nervousness. To Aoka, this was just another facade to make her seem like a normal average ninja.
"Hey, Aoka." She apathetically turned to Itou.
"Yes?" She monotoned.
"Congrats on you passing Academy." Itou held out his hand, and Aoka faked smiled, returning his congratulatory shake.
"Thanks Itou. I see you're still in number one rank." Aoka made slight conversation.
"Yeah, but if I'm not careful, Chizuko'll snap up my position immediately. Besides, rank means nothing in the face in a ninja battle. These were the easy years." Itou gathered a hard face. Well, someone's humble, Aoka chided.
"I don't think it's Chizuko you need to be worried about." Aoka said. Itou raised an eyebrow.
"Oh, yeah?" Itou looked amused.
"Well, what if someone decided to hide what they can really do for reasons unknown?" Aoka smiled smugly.
"Is that implying something, Aoka?" He looked at me suspiciously.
"Not really. Just saying. Bye, Itou." Aoka said, cutting off the conversation. Aoka turned over to Chizuko, who had a funny look on her face.
"What?" Aoka inquired.
''Don't you 'what?' me! I can't believe you're flirting with Itou! You know his fangirls will kill you, right?" Chizuko chuckled.
"Well, first of all, I wasn't flirting. Second of all, they can't kill me if they can't catch me." Aoka smirked. Chizuko burst out laughing, and Aoka followed, all the while, about to throw up from the fake laughing.
"Yeah, I knew there was a reason to why you're my best friend." Chizuko wiped a tear from her eye. Aoka quickly stopped fake smiling. Aoka felt there was no need to do more than needed. She didn't feel bad about lying to her friend about her true nature. Aoka didn't feel bad about anything. Her father taught her never to feel bad or guilty, because all that will do is tear you apart, and make your mission harder.
Aoka had to listen to her father. Although Aoka felt nothing but contempt for the man, she did acknowledge that some of his teachings were right.
"So, do you think we'll end up on the same team?" Chizuko asked Aoka. Aoka turned her head comically to Chizuko.
"Well, if you think about it, statistically, yes. Our power balances each other out. A boy close to the bottom, a girl in the middle, a girl a smidgen below the top. Besides, we all get along, and the jounins know that. I'm almost completely sure we'll end up together." Aoka said, explaining.
"Ummm.... I was just looking for a positive outlook, but I guess we have nothing to worry about, my calculating little friend." Chizuko gave Aoka a funny look, and Huyu sat down, returning from the bathroom.
"So... What's going on, guys?" He asked, smiling. Chizuko punched his arm lightly.
"What's up with us? What's with you? You totally slaughtered that guy. Like, literally." Chizuko asked. Aoka nodded silently. Although she was more than glad her friend's potential was back, he still went way overboard. Aoka could tell he knew it too.
"Yeah, I kinda went off the deep end, I know. But it's all good now. I promise." Huyu said. Aoka frowned. Her, being a master at lying herself, could tell he didn't mean that at all. She stared at him for a moment, and then spoke straight at him, not concerned about Chizuko at all in the moment.
"We have to talk after this, Huyu. Meet me in the park." Aoka said quietly, Huyu nodded, and Chizuko looked confused, but just shrugged and let it go.
"Alright, everyone! I will now read out the teams." Aoka stared down at Iruka-sensei. He was an honest guy, and was kind. But, he did not know when to quit meddling in Aoka's affairs. That was the one thing she did not like.
"Team 7, Aoka Ketsuki, Chizuko Nite, Huyu Mysto." Aoka chuckled quietly. It was the same team number as Naruto. Hinata did not ever hesitate on the details. Hinata liked to talk to Aoka a lot. She was still not very accepted in her family, except for Neji, so she and Aoka would hang out, since Aoka only let Hinata know a few of her ghastly secrets.
"Told ya." She whispered to Chizuko, who punched her in the arm. "Shut up." Chizuko whispered back. Aoka ignored everyone else's teams, and waited to be let out, lost in thought.
"Alright! Class dismissed!" Iruka-sensei shouted, and Aoka quietly got up, and started to file out. She walked intently to the park, and sat on a swing, gently rocking back and forth, waiting for Huyu. Aoka was the keeper of Huyu's deepest secret. Having problems similar to his, she didn't mind being his therapist if it meant keeping him in line for her plan.
"Hey, Aoka!" Huyu waved, and strolled over, sitting down on the swing beside her.
"So..." She spoke in a soothing voice for Huyu's sake. "Would you like to tell me what really happened in your fight?" Aoka asked, grabbing Huyu's hand.
"Well, it just... I mean... It was a flashback." He said, sounding guilty.
"A flashback? You mean, you remembered what happened to your Mom, and you used that Jutsu?" Aoka guessed.
"Sorta. I mean, you know what really happened that night... I... Acted like that all over again. I lost myself." Huyu's lip quivered.
"Yes, but this time, they didn't die! You stopped in time..." Aoka coaxed.
"But, that's not the point! I killed my own mom! I'm a monster!" Huyu started to cry.
"That wasn't your fault! That rogue put you under a genjutsu!" Aoka argued.
"Aoka... I'm worried that that genjutsu changed me permanently. Ever since then, When I go all out, I turn into a crazy monster!" Huyu shouted.
"Shhh...Shhhhhh..." Aoka stroked Huyu's back, trying to get him to calm down.
"Trust me Huyu, you aren't the monster in our team. besides, if you're that worried, you can always practice sparring with me. I'll always be here to help." Aoka faked smiling warmly. Huyu looked up to Aoka, and smiled back.
"But... Are you sure you're okay with sparring with me? What if I go insane again?" Huyu looked at Aoka, concerned.
"I'll be fine, trust me." Aoka patted Huyu's back.
"You're a really good friend, Aoka." Huyu said. Aoka's eyes widened. She shivered, shaking her head unnoticeably.
"No... Really, I'm not." Aoka whispered.
"Did you say something, Aoka?" Huyu asked.
"No. Nothing. Anyway, it's getting late, so we better go home." Huyu nodded, and they both got up, and walked toward their homes.
This was one more step completed, Aoka.
Don't regret it now.
