Guess what. The karaoke thing from almost famous came from experience. Just take away the One Direction and the Layla. For my writing class I had to write about an experience so I chose the day I sang karaoke at valley fair. And i thought maybe I could share it with you guys!! So here it is! Enjoy.
Abby Jo (last name), that's me! I love music, every kind you can think of sings a different feeling. Writing, listening, singing, that's what I want to do for the rest of my life, music. I love music more than anything. Recently I started writing my own, with my own feeling, with my own style, with my own melody. I can do with it whatever I want and I can shape it into a beautiful melody full of perfectly placed notes and patterns to catch the attention of those around me.
When I'm not playing my guitar I'm probably listening to music or singing, or both. Ask anyone in my family and they will confirm that statement. This thing about me being so musical and my family knowing that, is that if there is a crowd and an open mic, my family will most likely try to convince me to sing.
This takes place at Valley Fair, my first time. We got our food and sat down in the seating area where the karaoke was. "Abby! You have to do it." Alyssa said. Should I? But I might make a fool of myself. Well there's always that chance isn't there. I thought to myself. I took a deep breath and thought these exact words, You'll never get anywhere is you don't start somewhere. And those words stuck with me forever.
"Fine. I'll do it." I finally said. So I grabbed a book and started flipping through it trying to find a song that I knew well. Eventually I found one I felt confident with, I Knew You Were Trouble by Taylor Swift. Sorry if it's cliché but I know all the words so it helps with the whole nerves aspect.
I wrote down my name and the song I was singing and after a couple more people sang the announcer came up. "Abby is singing I Knew You Were Trouble by Taylor Swift! Good luck!" She said as I walked on stage. The crowd looked so much bigger from that point of view.
Butterflies filled my stomach and I could feel my hands shaking as I looked at my family in the crowd. My dad saw me looking and he smiled and gave me a thumbs up. Then the music started. I could feel my heart beating in my chest as I started to sing, "Once upon a time, a few mistakes ago, I was in your sights..."
Once the song finished everyone clapped and I had just noticed how much the crowd had grown while I was singing. I went and sat down with my family receiving a few thank you' s. Yeah, this is definitely what I want to do.
And there it is! what did you think?
Love y'all!
