1999, I was waiting in my room when I heard a loud crash of thunder. With a bright flash and a strike across the sky. My parents had left to tend to some chores, leaving me behind. So I waited, after an hour passed, I became bored of the empty house. The only sound surround me was the sound of rain bouncing off our tin roofing. I was always scare of being by myself, alone. I decided to come up with a game as I laid stretched out across my bed. First, the goal was to count the cracks in the old roofing. Then, I decided I was going to explore the house. My home was built like a castle. Huge windows, spiderwebs in the tops of the windows, but quiet. Besides the sound of falling rain upon the tin roofing, the house seemed abandoned. I slide off of bed and walked up to my door pretending as though I would get in trouble for being out and about. It was way passed my curfew. I carefully opened the door pretending not to here the squeaking sound.   The whiteboard across my door swung back and forth. As the lighting boomed outside, it laminated my name on the door, Amber. As I stood in the doorway, I listened. As I stood in the doorway I heard something knock. A black feather fall to the floor in front of me. I reached down and picked up the shining feather. The knock sound came again this time closer. After a moment of standing in the dark doorway, I decided to venture out into the hallway. Reaching a small end table in front of a huge window, I found a little table lamp with a pack of matches. I lite the little lamp and held it up lighting the hallway. As soon as the light dashed to the stairwell the sound of flapping started up. I felt a gust of wind fill the hall causing the flame from my candle to flicker. I carefully tried to prevent the flame from flickering out. The flapping stopped and the sound of something running up the staircase started. "What's going on here?" I saw something big and black reach the top of the stairs. It kinda looked like a dog or a wolf but the shadowy monster was to large. The monster's green eyes met mine, sending chills through my body. The monster started to advance towards me causing me to step back. My bare foot touched something soft. I looked back to see another black feather and behind it a crow. The crow flew up and flew towards the monster size beast. My lamp flickered out and sent me into a pitch black state. I heard the beast let out a cry in pain but then silence returned to the mansion. I carefully lender down and began to crawl to a window which light up a fraction of the house with the dim moon light. I reached the window and gathered my surroundings. Across from me was my room and to my left, the battle arena between a black crow and and shadow creature. My guess was that the crow would lose and that monster size beast would be after me. I decided it best to make a dash to my room and lock myself away from all this weird stuff. I ran for my door and tripped, when I sat up, a white cat sat in front of me. It had a little black bell around his neck. I sat up and ran into my room the cat following me. He jumped on my bed and starred at me. I locked the door trying to gather my breath with my hands on my knees, gasping. The blue eyed cat looked at me with his head cocked to the side. "What are you doing here Kitty?" I stood up, finally recovered from my random experience. What was that thing? I walked over to the cat and sat on my bed. The kitty jumped in my lap and started purring. I don't think my parents will let me keep you kitty I thought to myself. I started to stroke the cat listening to his calming purrs. I grabbed the cat and laid down. I soon fell into a deep sleep.

I woke up to find the cat gone. Rubbing the sleep out of my eyes, I threw the covers off of me and got up out of bed. Everything seemed really different, it felt colder than before. I walked over to my window to see if my parents had returned yet from there chores to find it pitch black outside. "It's dark and they're still not home?" I shut the blinds and walked over to my bedroom door. I unlatched the lock and walked out of the door. The hallway floor was freezing cold. So my parents haven't returned and the furnace burned out. The hallway was very different now. The flooring had changed, instead of finished wood it was now rotten boards. The walls used to be painted with a cheery purple, but were now cracked up concrete walling. I must be dreaming, how did this happen? I went to turn around but my door slammed shut. The only normal thing was now cut off from me now. I tried to pry open the door, but it was held shut. I gave up and returned to the creepy hallway. I started to walk down the empty hallway. The candlelights on the wall which were off, flickered on as I approached them. I reached the area where the monster dog thing was and found both feathers and fur on the ground. Drops of blood spotted the rotten flooring. They lead down the staircase and to the front door. I walked over to the guard railing and started to descend the staircase. The steps were rotten and the railing broke in places. I made it half way when the step under my barefoot broke. I fell into the stair causing my leg to get all scratched up and bleeding. Wearing my pajama shorts didn't save my leg at all. I felt blood run down my leg and pain shot through my body. I struggled to get my leg out but that just sent the splinted wood deeper into my leg. Finally, I gave up struggling. My vision started to get a little fuzzy making it difficult to make out object. I saw what looked like the little cat at the base of the steps. He started to climb the stairs until he reached me. I reached out my hand to pet the soft cat only to retreat it when I felt something bony and cold.

I blinked a few times, trying to clear my sight when I notice the cat. He was white but it wasn't white fur I was seeing now. He had no fur only bone. He hopped down the stairs and ran into a hole on the wall. "What is happening to me? Why am I seeing these things?"   I started to feel my leg go numb when I saw the cat again. This time, he brought someone with him. The figure looked like a human but I couldn't make out his features. I was able to make out the bony cat rubbing around the person's feet. The person walked up the stairs to me and sat down in front of me. The person had short black hair like a boy so I amused the person was a boy. He carefully extended his hand around my knee and the other down around the busted boards. At this point I began to feel real dizzy. I felt the boards release around my leg, setting me free. As soon as he completely freed my leg I shifted away from the blurry person. I heard him chuckle then reach around and grabbed the cat. "So who's the girl Spike?" He asked rubbing the bones on the Spike's back. I tried to stand up and return to my room, but I got real light headed. I tried to grab the railing but it broke causing me to fall down towards the bottom of the stairs. I expected to hit every step on the way down but was gladly mistaking. I saw the stranger shoot up from the floor and grab me. One hand around my wrist the other around my waist. I felt something sharp around my wrist. I tried to force on the strangers features but couldn't make out anything, but his eye's. His eyes were the same green eyes I saw on the shadow creature's. I tried to get away from his grasp, afraid that he was the monster. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to escape. Instead, he loosened his grip on my wrist and leaned down, sweeping me off my feet. That was the last thing I could recall before I blacked out.
Through a haze I made out the floor moving. Was I being carried? My leg throbbed from the pain. What was going on here? The only thing I remembered being normal was the flickering lamp. That reminds me, where did the lamp disappear to?
