Hello all! This was halfway written and has been lying untouched on my laptop for quite some time, so I thought why not share it? Anyway, I hope you enjoy it, and I look forward to your feedback on it! xxx

Prologue
I waited rigidly in the chair, in silence as my Boss read the letter that I had just passed to him less than a minute ago. I had an expressionless mask on even though I was a nerve wreck inside. My palms started to sweat, so I rubbed it inconspicuously against my jeans. It took me a whole lot of courage to hand in that letter to him today. I had been delaying it for three days already, and I could not afford anymore time to go to waste. I really hoped that he would understand and accept my decision making.
I stared at my Boss's facial, attempting to get a read out of him, but of course, he had his poker face on. Damn it. One of the disadvantages of working in such a line. For a man in his early forties, I would be tricking myself if I said my Boss was not a handsome man. He had his light brown hair combed in a sleek, business man style that showed he was a no-nonsense man. His dark chocolate eyes that weren't gazing at me added to his whole regal look. His tanned body was well muscled for someone his age, and it gave him a charismatic air that made most of the office ladies swoon at him. Even those who were married. Sure he was good looking, but he was way too old for me and he was my Boss, after all. Plus, I had a man in my life already. Or perhaps, used to have one. My heart squeezed a little in tightness at the thought.
"So," I was taken out of my disturbing thoughts by my Boss's voice, "let me get this right. You want to resign. Not a long-term break, but a resignation."
I gulped, maybe a little too loudly, but I maintained eye contact with the man in front of me.
"Yes, Boss," I replied, glad that my voice did not crack and sounded stronger than what I felt, "as of now, my decision is to resign. I've lost too many important people in my short years, and the only one I have left is Kenshin and he only has me left, too. I can't possibly think of leaving him alone when he is still so young. I'm going to raise him up myself."
My Boss looked at me for a little while longer before he looked down and gave out a soft sigh.
"It looks like you've made your decision already, and nothing would change your mind. I don't blame you for making such a choice, considering what you've gone through. However, shall we make a deal, instead?" I gave a nod.
"You're one of the best, Yukiko. I can't phantom cutting you out permanently. I'll put your file on a long-term break with no definitive date of return, instead, just in case you were to change your mind. Which is something I'm definitely hoping for. Just give me a ring when you do. This place will always have a spot for you. Should you not change your mind still in the next ten years or so, I'll permanently terminate your existence in this field. Is that a deal?"
I thought about it, and it didn't sound too bad a deal. What's the harm in it, too? So, I agreed to it.
My Boss's lips turned up a little for a rare smile as he stood from where he sat, behind his oak office table.
"It was a pleasure having you under my wing all this time, Yukiko Ruby. I really hope to hear favorable news from you in time to come," my Boss said as he held his office door opened for me.
"Likewise, Boss. It was a pleasure having worked in this field, albeit, having worked only for a few years," I said as I followed suit in standing up and walking out of the doors.
We bid farewell and I was left to my own thoughts, then. I really did it. I finally tendered in my resignation as an International Spy Operative. I let out a sigh of relieve as I fingered with the diamond ring that was enclosed on my right ring finger.
Raising a five year old child was no easy feat, I was aware of that. Plus, considering our circumstances, it'll be even harder with me being seventeen only. Money wasn't really an issue, but I hope all would go smoothly. Please look out for us, Ethan, I thought before going out of the sliding doors of the building.
Wait for me, Kenshin. Your sister was coming home for sure this time round.
