Chapter Five
Faye shook out her arms and rubbed her sweaty palms on her jeans. She strummed a few chords on her red electric guitar and then played her scales. She started at C scale and made it to Db before she got interrupted by the owner of Lava Club stepping up to the mic in the center of the stage. Matt came up behind Faye and freaked her out by tapping her shoulder. She turned slightly to him and gave a strong smile. She could do this. She just had to ignore the feeling that something bad was going to happen tonight.
"Everyone settle down!" came the voice of Tiara's mother, Ruby; "I have a very special treat for you all." Ruby let her words come out in a long drawl, "Please give a hand for...The Tyrants!"
As planned, Matt walked onto stage first, earning an excited squeal of girls from the audience as they took him in. Then next came Quinn. The whole crowd cheered. Faye tugged her black cami that only came to her belly button. She wore her white skinny jeans and black leather boots with three-inch heels. She had her white newsboy cap on, facing a little to the left side. She brushed her fingers quickly through her blond and purple hair and then went onto the stage. Cheers erupted from all around her as a rush entered her body. The crowd cheered again as Cody entered and took his place behind the drums.
Faye looked to Matt for her signal to start, the lights dimming in the club. She looked him over, his silk black button-down shirt with his white tie and black jeans. He wore white shoes and his hair was as messy as it usually was. The band had decided to use the colors black and white for their color choices of clothing. Faye had picked out all their clothes since the other three band members were guys and thus the guys assumed Faye had a good sense of clothing, since she was a girl. She had thought she'd done a pretty bang-up job with all of their clothing and liked her own clothes that she had chosen for herself. Matt nodded to her. It wasn't even a nod, just a slight tilt of the head in her general direction, but she took the cue and begin to strum the first chords, switching to melody and adding hammer-ons before switching back to chords.
Quin and Cody came in at the same time in perfect harmony. Matt closed his eyes and pressed his lips to the mic and started with the words to the song. The girls in the crowd screamed as he finished the first verse. Faye couldn't blame them. Matt did look adorable and his voice had always put her into a daze. She grinned at the audience as they all rounded on the bridge to the chorus. They repeated the second verse, then the bridge again and the chorus and finally came to their last and final verse of the song. Matt stopped singing and Faye strummed her final chord. She bowed her head and took off her newsboy cap, throwing it into the air and saw as Hanna reached for it in the audience and wrapped her hands firmly around the cap. Faye shook back her hair from her face and beamed at everyone. The audience, Tiara's mom in the side of the stage, her band mates and even Tiara, who was waiting for Cody next to her mother.
Faye was the first off the stage. She ran off, brushing Tiara as she did so. Tiara moaned as she pretended to be in pain and started to fake cry. She stomped on Faye's foot with her four-inch heeled white leather boots. Faye didn't flinch and Tiara wailed louder. Cody ran off next and looked from Faye to Tiara. Faye glared at Tiara and didn't move as Matt wrapped an arm across her shoulder. Quinn left the stage with a wave at the audience and got off the stage without a second glance at the glare fest in the wings of the stage. Faye glared at Tiara who glared at Faye. Cody glared at Faye and Matt glared at Cody for glaring at Faye.
