"Do you know that brief moment between the sunset and night time? That moment when the sun is gone but the horizon is still lit by pinks and reds whilst behind you the sea of dark blue paints the sky? That's my favourite time of day. I find it really calming, really... clean.

Clean of light, clean of darkness, it's that time in between. That's why I come here you know? I can admire it's beauty from here, and i'm usually the only one around too.
Last year i came to find a couple sitting right there, behind that tree. I just sat quietly in my spot and waited for the show. I also came across a family, kids and all, once. That one time i had to politely ask them if they could move as my spot had been taken. I mean it's not that nice when you're not sitting here, you know?"

She lays back onto the grass and after realising I wasn't catching on , she grabs my hand and pulls me down next to her.

"I used to like dawn better , when the streets are silent, apart from the businesses opening and the occasional pedestrian taking an early walk. Until he took me here anyway."

"He?" She ignores my question and proceeds.

"I didn't appreciate it at first, i thought that the coloured sky was something too cheesy for me to have a liking for. It took a few times, and even though i was pretty sure he knew about my indifference he still insisted. I knew he enjoyed this like no other so i never complained about it, it's nice to see someone you love enjoy something they love you know?"

Her face falls and all brightness is drained from her expression. I take this as the only opportunity to get to her.

"What happened with him?" I'm surprised when she turns to me, confused and utterly surprised.

"With who?" She stares at me blankly.

"Niall, what happened with Niall?"
She abruptly turns away from me, fixating her gaze on the sky ahead of us and pressing her lips together with such force they turned white. Her voice breaks as she says the following:

"You know what he'd say?" She continues not waiting for my answer. " How many nights do you think it would take to count all the stars? And then I would nod silently and scoot closer to him. Infinite of them. When one dies another is born. I'd drag one of them down just for you.

Of course i was aware of how cheesy that was . Like i must admit it's cheesy as fuck , but oh well . I didn't care , i don't care still."

The silent between us is dragged on for a few minutes whilst the sun finally disappears.

"And so it begins.

I didn't mean to hurt him, you know that right? I never did... I would never even dare... But he had left it clear that we weren't going to work and i just happened to be with the wrong person when he told me. I'll never forgive myself for it, for maybe now he'd be here instead of you. Not that i don't like you but you know.

I wasn't thinking straight when it happened, and even though now i can remember drinking away any possibility of us having a future , at the time the consequences to me were unknown."

"Even when you and Lu-"

"Yes." She snapped at me as i decided i had stepped over the thin line she had drawn around her. "You know about us, don't you? We were always close, he liked me. More than one saw it coming . Well know what!?? I didn't! I didn't know he'd kiss me, and never had i imagined i'd find myself kissing him back as passionately.
All consequence of the alcohol of course. But most important of all, never had i seen coming what came next.

It was hurt more than rage, and believe me when i say i'd prefer him to yell at me. Watching him be so hurt as in that moment, watching him be so disappointed ."

I was beyond startled when she stood up, brushed some dirt off her trousers and offered me a hand. When she saw i wasn't taking it she mumbled a quick "suit yourself" and turned away.

"Wait, where are you going?"

"It's over."

"What do you mean , it's over?"

"Don't you see it's night time already? Are you gonna come?"

Without a moment of hesitation i answer.

"I'm going to stay for a bit you know?"

"I do" then she walked away leaving me and my thoughts sitting in that field.

I hope the story is clear , feel free to comment and so and thank you if you've read it :) ~ Cris
