Life of the Homeworld Gems

Pearl's Duties

(Pearl's P.O.V.)

In Homeworld, there are many Pearls. Each one of us are assigned to a gem that we have to obey. They are our leaders and we have to follow their command. I am the Pearl that belongs to one of the highest ranked officials in Homeworld, Pink Diamond, or Rose Quartz. She does not treat me like the other gems would though. Pink Diamond treats me with respect and kindness, whereas if I belonged to a Peridot I would not be treated with kindness. A Peridot would treat me as inferior and make me run their errands for them.

The four highest ranked gems are the Diamonds. The members of the Diamond Authority are White Diamond, Blue Diamond, Yellow Diamond, and Pink Diamond. Yellow Diamond runs the technology and battle branch of Homeworld. The gems under her command create weapons and other technology. They are the ones that run Kindergartens on planets that they take over. Pink Diamond runs the hospital branch of Homeworld. She uses her tears to heal cracked gems. There are no other gems under her command besides me because she is the only one that can heal gems. It was not her choice to own me but every important gem gets assigned a pearl. Blue Diamond controls the communication branch of Homeworld. The gems under her command make new ways of communication and send messages for gems. Finally, White Diamond is the head of the exploration branch. These gems are the ones that find planets for Kindergartens and create warp pads.

Today, Rose asked me to go to all of the branches of Homeworld to find any gems that need to be healed. The first branch I go to is Blue Diamond's. I walk around to all of the Lapis Lazulis and Sapphires to check for cracks. I check a Lapis's gem. There are no cracks. I move on to the next one. Again there are no cracks. I do not check the Pearls because it is illegal for a Pearl to be healed since they are unimportant.

After completing my duties in that branch I decide to move on to Yellow Diamond's Branch. The first gem I check is a Jasper's gem.

"Hello, defect." Jasper snickers. Since my gem is elliptical instead of circular I am defective. I am the lowest ranked gem, being a Pearl, and I am defective. The only gem in the entire Homeworld that does not treat me like I am an old rag is Rose. She is the only gem that understands me. I wish we could leave Homeworld and have a life together on another planet. Jasper slaps me across the face. I realize that  I was day dreaming. I blush and move on to a Peridot.

Once I completed checking every single gem in all three of the branches, which took a few hours, I returned to Rose with no cracked gems.

"Thank you, Pearl." She says.

"Anything for you, Rose." I insist.

"Come here, my Pearl." She grins and pulls me into an embrace. "You are the best Pearl there is." She whispers.
