The eyes of an infant watch me

as I quickly pack my things and

place them by the front door.

Her cries fill the room causing

me to lose my concentration as

I look at the front door to see if

someone is coming. The cries of my

precious little lamb fill my ears as I

rush to the bathroom to make myself

over. With every snip of hair I

remember the night before.

His beastly hands grabbing my

soft, smooth wrist as I tried to

protect my precious child.

His hand slapping neon my rosy brown face left a bruise as black as the midsummer night. I tried to get away, protect my baby,

but the force of his power devoured

me into a corner of the living

room wall. My baby wept but he did not

cease to stop hurting me.

The pain of yesterday still lies in my face.

I quickly take the foundation and

erase the agony and strife from my face.

I walk back to the living room where my baby continued to weep. I picked up her

delicate sweet warm body and

took our bags from the door.

The golden keys jangled in my hands as

I unlocked my path to freedom.
