The schoolyard was filled with kids playing and talking. I ignored them as usual. I went in to my locker and opened it. I lay in my blue bag and picked up my math book, my pencil and my rubber. I closed the locker and started walking to the classroom. The door was open so I walked in and sat down in my place in the back of the classroom. The bench beside mine had always been empty. And I had liked that. I didn’t have to hide my work or anything. The other students had begun to come in and after them came the teacher. But she didn’t come alone. With her had she a girl. She had long red hair and green eyes. She was wearing a purple dress which reached to her knees. She smiled and her eyes shined and she remembered me about me when I was a little girl. I wanted those green shiny eyes to look at me, and see me.

–Listen up class! said our teacher Catherine. This is Ella Keener, she’s new at this school and she is going to be in our class. Be nice to her. Ella you can sit next to Selma.

Catherine pointed towards Selma. Ella nod and looked on me with her magical eyes. Ella smiled and started to walk towards me. When she sat down beside me I felt something I hadn’t felt in five years. A little bit of happiness. The little bit grew and filled whole me with happiness. A smile spread on my face and my blue eyes got a spark in them. A sign of life. It was something that showed that I actually wanted to live.

 –Hi, I’m Selma. I said.

 –Hi! Nice to meet you!

We both smiled. The other people in the room looked surprised. They almost never heard me speak, and never had they seen a smile in my face.

The lesson continued. I didn't work much that lesson, I just thought about those green eyes. I knew that this girl, Ella, had looked straight at me. Not pass me, AT me. Usually everyone just looked pass me to see someone else. But Ella didn't. It felt like she cared about me, something I hadn't felt for a long time, not for reel. That was why I was happy I think.

I watched Ella write in her math book. Every time she lifted her eyes from the book I pretended to work. But one time she caught my eyes; she looked in to them and smiled again. I smiled back and blushed. Remaining time of the lesson went fast, and soon the bell rang. Catherine gave us an easy homework and we went out from the classroom.

While I was standing at my locker I couldn't see Ella anywhere. I could I have been so stupid? Of course she wouldn't want to be my friend. She could surely get anyone as a friend if she wanted. I couldn't see why someone would say no to be friends with someone like her. As I stood there thinking I suddenly felt a hand on my shoulder. I jumped and spun around quickly. It was Ella, she actually stood there smiling.
