I had answered all the doctors questions, and the room got suddenly quiet.
"What? What is it?" I asked. No one answered and everyone avoided looking at me straight In the eyes.
"Tell me! Someone! Please! I can't stand the suspense! I've already come up with so many scenarios!" I screamed and everyone looked at me then, everyone except Adam.
He looked stressed as if he was holding himself back from something. Everyone that did look at me had looked at me with such sadness it made me want to cry. "Just tell me....please? Doctor? Please?" I said quietly this time.
"When we found you in the car and your dad we got your dad first, he lost a lot of blood and you hit your head pretty bad. We rushed you both into the hospital and we tended to both of you. We got your dad stabilized-" the doctor was trying to say but I interrupted with an "Oh thank God!"
But that's when the doctor continued "but he lasted for about two hours before he went on his way.....Kaly we are so sorry, we tried everything we could do."
I didn't speak for a minute or two".......But how? Why? Why him? Why not me? He was my dad...he was my best friend........" I whispered.
"Kaly...Kaly....are you alright? We know he meant a lot to you." Adam said.
"No! No! No! No you don't he was my only friend! You wouldn't know how it feels to lose your only friend! For God's sake! Your the most popular guy in the school! Everyone is your friend! He was my only friend! My ONLY friend!" I screamed at him. "Go away...please just go away...." I was crying again.
"But Kaly..." Adam started but I cut him off.
"Go away! I don't even know why you are here! Go away! All of you." Adam looked at me for a second then he was out of the door.
Everyone else stood there for a second shocked at my outburst then they remembered they were suppose to leave and started out the door one bye one.
I curled up on the hospital bed and cried and cried. I feel asleep crying. I woke up the next day...I think. I couldn't tell, but I woke up and Adam was there again, but he was asleep. I was staring at him when he woke up.
He scrambled out of the chair, saying "I....I was going to leave before you woke up." At least that's what it sounded like, but he was whispering.
"It's alright," I said. "I.....I want to apologize for screaming at you yesterday? Is it the next day? I probably shouldn't have yelled at you." I started.
"No...no...you were angry I get that. You were right, any ways...." He said. That was when it got awkward. We stared at each other for a while, then he started to move closer, he sat down in the chair.
"Sooo....are you alright?" He asked.
"That's kind of a dumb question right now don't you think......?" I said.
"Yeah, your probably right." It got quiet again. "Do you want me to call the nurse? Or get you anything?" He asked suddenly.
"Ummm...no nurse but could you get me a glass of water?" I asked. "Yeah, yeah. Just give me a minute and I'll be back." He turned to leave but at the door he swiveled around.
"Oh and I'm suppose to tell when your awake....do you want me to tell everyone?" He looked shy as he said this, I answered with a single "No, not yet, I'm not ready to face everyone, I think facing you will be enough." I said with a smile.
He smiled back then. "Ok." He turned around to get my glass of water.
I didn't realize that that was the mistake. I shouldn't have sent anyone away. I should have kept them in that room so I wouldn't be left to dwell on the point that my dad was dead. He was dead, D. E. A. D. I started to cry then.
