The next morning, Lauren was awoken by a sweet aroma of hot coffee. Lauren doesn't remember falling asleep with a blanket draped over her, nor does she remember being propped up gently by a fluffy pillow.
Lauren slowly opened up her eyes, allowing the sunlight to seep through the slits of her eyes. She used her knuckles to gently push her eyes to open fully, she let out a soft yawn and did a quick stretch. The dark haired, sleepy eyed woman walked into the kitchen to be greeted by a bright eyed, sweet faced young Latina. "Good morning, Lauren. I thought I would make you some coffee, I tried to be quiet, I didn't want to wake you. But, I guess I failed miserably. How many sugars would you like?" Camila asked sweetly. Lauren smiled, her facial muscles warming up slowly, "good morning, Camila. Thank you for doing this, it was really sweet of you, oh and three please."
The girls engaged in a conversation over coffee and some crime television shows, just enjoying each other's company, disregarding the fact that Lauren was supposed to be helping this girl, but instead becoming more of a friend rather than a project. "Can I take you out to breakfast?" Lauren asked the brown eyed girl. Camila hesitated, "no, you don't have to do that, I'm fine I swear." Lauren lifted herself from the couch, "I'm giving you ten minutes to get dressed, we'll be leaving soon." She smiled brightly, showing her bold smile. "I don't have any clothes, remember?" Camila laughed.
"Oh, right. I'll get you something." Lauren replied. She handed Camila a pair of jeans, and a grey sweater, "we can be comfy, don't worry about it."
Lauren was dressed in light jeans and a oversized beige sweater, the sleeves swallowing her hands gently, she also had finished it off with a pair of light brown uggs, she resembled a warm cup of coffee. Camila also got dressed, and the two headed out. They entered a hole in the wall type of restaurant, Lauren had been coming to that little restaurant for as long as she remembered. "Oh, hello Lauren. How are you this fine morning?" A elderly woman with faded red hair asked. "I'm doing great, Mrs.Williams, and yourself?" Again, Camila just trailed behind Lauren, letting her engage in the warm conversation, waiting to be directed. Camila's eyes wandered from Lauren's shoes, from her perfectly carved legs, all the way to her beautiful flowing hair.
Camila caught herself biting her lip, as soon as she realized what she was doing she stopped quickly, she ran her hand through her hair and just chuckled to herself. She followed Lauren to a small booth and they sat, being left to choose what they were in the mood for. Camila looked at the menu, looking closely at the prices, Camila only had about five dollars in her purse, she used the rest of her money for other things. "Umm, I'll just take the waffle, nothing on the side." She said nervously. Lauren linked an eyebrow, "that's it? Are you sure?" Camila quickly nodded, "yeah that's it."
"No, it's fine, I got you. You should try the French toast with the hash browns, they're amazing." Lauren smiled. "I can't afford it.." Camila mumbled. Lauren placed her hand on top of Camila's, "I said, I got you. That's what friends are for, right?" Camila half smiled and nodded, "I guess so." In the pit of her stomach she felt embarrassed, Camila has always been independent. She never depended on anyone to take care of her, that's why she was so hesitant to live on her own. Even if it wasn't the best place to live, she managed to do her own thing without her parents holding her hand along the way.
"Hey, can I ask you something?" Camila asked the sleepy eyed girl. Lauren nodded, "of course you can, what is it?" Camila began to fidget with a napkin placed in front of her, "how did you know-you know..get to be so successful, you're my age and you're a powerful woman, I want to be viewed like that sometimes, but I mean. Being who I am, and what I do, nobody is going to take me seriously." Camila looked down, she looked as if she was about to burst out in tears. Lauren comforted her quickly, "Camila, hey, look at me." The petite girl shook her head, "I can't."
