Once upon a time, there was an old castle that stood in the middle of a beautiful bright forest. In this castle, there lived a wizard called England who can take any shape he pleased to be. Usually, he would turn into an owl or a cat during the day but he would always turn back into a man again at night.
England hated guys a lot because he was once cheated on by a guy many years backs so he could only bring himself to trust maidens now which caused him to fix up a spell- that unfortunately worked for once- that would make sure that any guy that would come a hundred paces of his castle would be frozen in place. He would only let them go until they promise not to come near him and his castle again.
As for any cute maiden that comes strolling within hundred paces around the castle, she would be turned into a lovely bird which England would then capture and bring back to his castle to keep her in a cage and hang it up in his chamber where he would then be able to hear her sing every day.
He had hundreds of these cages in his chamber and each and every one of them had a beautiful bird locked inside of it.
Then came a maiden named Liechtenstein and she was the most gorgeous and fair-hearted maiden that was ever seen before and was betrothed to a handsome shepherd whose name was Switzerland. They loved each other dearly and Switzerland swore to always protect his future wife from any danger that would come to her.
They were the perfect couple.
One day, they went to have a walk in a forest and it happened to be the very same forest that England was living it. Due to that, they made extra precautions not to stray near his castle.
But although it was a very beautiful evening, it was rather windy. So it was no surprise when Liechtenstein’s hat came flying off her head and deeper into the forest.
“My hat!” she cried out and ran after it frantically as Switzerland looked after in surprise.
“W-Wait! Liechtenstein!” Switzerland grumbled and chased after her in exasperation. When they finally managed to get it back, they were already deep inside the forest and quickly realised that they were lost.
“What are we suppose to do?” Liechtenstein wondered aloud, tears already welling up in her eyes and Switzerland held her hand tightly and gave her a reassuring smile.
“Don’t worry, I’m sure we’ll be able to find our way out!” he said determinedly and they started to walk around and try to find a way out of the forest. Night soon fell and they sat down on a boulder to rest. Seeing how stressed out Switzerland was, Liechtenstein started to sing so that he would calm down.
There was a bush behind them and there was suddenly a loud cry of an owl from behind it. Surprised, he decided to look through it and saw that they, without knowing it, had sat down close to the walls of England’s castle.
Turning pale with fright, he turned around to tell Liechtenstein when he realised that her singing had been cut off. In her place was a pretty nightingale that was staring right at him desperately.
An owl burst out of the bushes and grabbed the poor bird in her claws and disappeared into the bush. He couldn’t move nor speak and could only looked on in horror as straight afterwards, a handsome wizard came forth with Liechtenstein trying to escape from his hand.
“Hello! My name is England, what may be yours?” he smirked, leaning towards Switzerland who glaring back at him. When the latter didn’t answer, he started to laugh.
“Right, you can’t answer me! Let me put her in the cage first and I’ll come back to see what I can do with you,” he winked and disappeared on the spot, leaving Switzerland frozen and unable to move.
Seconds later, he reappeared again with empty hands and grabbed Switzerland’s collar threateningly, his smile gone from his face.
“Listen here, come here again and I’ll make sure to rip out your guts one by one,” he warned softly and Switzerland could feel a warm sensation going through his body before he could move again. He fell to his knees and tried to stand up again when England aimed kick to his head and he lost consciousness.
When he woke up, he found himself back at home. Liechtenstein was nowhere to be seen.
Determined to get her back, he plotted ways to get her back but it was useless. He didn’t dare to go near the castle without knowing well enough that he would be able to get her back and survive at the same time.
After some time, he received a dream of a beautiful purple flower with a lovely pearl in the middle that would disenchant anything in his path when he holds it in his hand which would help him find his love.
When he awoke, he was sure that it wasn’t just a dream and started to search everywhere for the flower. After a week, he finally found it on top of the mountain near his home and was ready to rescue Liechtenstein.
To his surprise, he wasn’t frozen when he walked nearer and nearer to the castle and when he touched the door lightly with the flower, it sprang open. After searching for some time and following the advice of the songs that the captured birds sang to him, he discovered England in his chamber, listening to all the songs of the birds that he captured.
“What the bloody hell?! When did you get here?” England gasped but didn’t dare go near Switzerland or do anything to him as the flower was keeping him away. Instead, he grabbed one of the cages which had a pretty nightingale in it and tried to escape.
But Switzerland took out his gun and fired a warning shot which made England stop arubptly in his tracks and throw the cage at him before disappearing. Luckily, Switzerland caught the cage in his hands and touched it with his flower. The cage and bird vanished from sight and all that was left was a lovely Liechtenstein that hugged him tightly.
The reunited couple, feeling happy that they were together once more, decided to turn all the other birds back into the maidens they were originally and helped them find all their families and husbands.
And they lived happily ever after.
As for England?
He was found hiding in a pub and was sent to be burned at stake.
Luckily for him though, he managed to escape and found the guy who had cheated on him and they fell in love again.
