FIRST CHAPTER:)
Kate's POV(sorry I am writing in bold I just think it is prettier:)
Tears ran down my tan face as I hugged my two best friends good bye. "I am going to miss you so much, promise me that you will Skype us as soon as you get there?" I giggled between deep breaths and engulfed Marny into a suffocating hug. "I promise." She smiled in approval and I moved to Jamie. Tears were threatening to push past the barrier known as her, 'toughness' and when I looked at her they rushed out like a damn had broken. I grabbed her and pulled her in for a hug like I had for Marny just as the horn from my dad's truck started to beep obnoxiously. I pulled away and looked at them smiling through my tears, before swinging my 'Cali girl' backpack over my left soldier and trudging to the backseat of the car.
I plopped into the seat and immediately stuck my ear plugs into my ears and just listened to the music that reminded me so much of the only place I had ever actually considered, 'home'.
They had promised that Cali would be the last move. That I wouldn't have to go through all of this bullshit anymore. So I made friends, but what a mistake that was. Now after unpacking my bags and setting everything up to make it feel like I can relax and just be happy, my entire life is snatched away from me like so many other friends and homes.
When California Girls came on I smiled and let the tears continue to roll down my now red cheeks as I hummed along to the beat.
After about 10 songs we finally pulled up to the airport. I sighed and grabbed my backpack, leaving my parents handle to my luggage as the most respectful form of payback that I could come up with in such a short amount of time. I can't be to bad because my dad's in the military, and believe me when I say, that when a military man isn't happy, nobody is happy.
We all made it through the first part of security check and only had the metal detector left. My parents walked through causing no noise whatsoever. I sighed and began to travel through it too. I had only made it about halfway through when the dreaded beeping noise filled the room and all people in hearing distance shot their hands up as quickly as possible to shield their ears from the piercing noise that sounded throughout the airport.
I stood there frozen. What could I have forgotten? Realization hit me like a rock. How could I be so stupid?! I shoved my hand into my pocket and pulled out the charm bracelet that Marney and Jamie had given me the day before. Smiling at the shimmer of it caused by the light I stepped out of the detector, causing the beeping to cease and the security gaurds to speed over to me. "Care to explaian?" A fat one asked me. I took a minute to observe him, seeing that he was one of the only fat men I had seen in California before. He had a ton of facial hair but his head was so bald that if the sun hit it right is the car, the person behind him would get the reflection from his head straight into their eye. I giggled at the thought. This guy alone could cause the biggest car wreck in history!
I snapped back to reality when he cleared his throat louder than necessary. "Oh, right sorry. You see sir, I forgot that I had my charm bracelet in my pocket." I told him sweetly giving him my innocent, 'what can you do' look. he grunted and waved me off. "Just go." I mumbled a feisty cat noise under my breath as he walked away muttering things that not even the minions from Despicable Me would have been able to figure out.
"Kate, come on we are going to miss our flight if you don't come right now." I wish I could have laughed and told them that I needed to pee or something to stall but sadly, I didn't have a family that I could do that with, so instead I sighed and grabbed my backpack again, jamming my feet into my converse while I walked.
After we finally boarded the plane I leaned my head up against the window not caring enough to push my brown pin straight hair out of my still slightly bloodshot eyes. Soon after I was in a dead sleep.
