Everything's cold, Jason

I don't want to do this anymore

Jason, please I don't want to-

........

Jason?

Jason Tobbs was cold.

The corridors of the Other Hospital was colder than the ones in the normal hospital. He didn't even try sitting down on the metal benches in fear of having his thighs freeze there forever. Mist escaped his lips as he sighed, his gloved hands tucked into his winter jacket. It was that cold.

"Come on, isn't this the miracle hospital? I'm sure it doesn't take that long..." Jason mumbled to himself, running a hand through his hair. He exhaled and turned his head down the corridor. It was empty, and it stretched out, longer than the usual hallway.

Jason gulped. The route into The Hospital of All Things Good was confusing, but the route to the operating room was pure terrifying. Patients ogling at them and the occasional nurse appearing out of...nowhere.

Suddenly, the blood red light above the operation room doors blinked off, and the sound of wheels spinning grew louder. Jason felt like bursting into tears there and then. Tassidy was going to be fine. They're both going to be fine.

The doors swung open and Jason took a step back. Six doctors -he didn't remember that there were that many- rolled out a bed that had a petite, blonde-haired girl lying on top of it. Jason reached forward and took the girl's hand. Tassidy felt cold and looked pale, but he could feel her pulse fluttering under her wrist, and he felt tears pricking his eyes again.

"Oh-Oh thank you, thank you so much." He managed to choke out, and raised his head and stared at the doctors. They nodded in unison, their faces covered in goggles and masks, looking as if they were connected by the same system. That was most probably the case.

The doctors started to wheel Tassidy into a ward and Jason followed close behind, his eyes staring at her. She looked so small in that bed, he was glad she was cured now.

They hooked her up to a IV drip and left her afterwards, in a straight line, brushing past Jason. His skin crawled with goosebumps when they did that, but completely forgot about it when the door shut behind him. He shot forward and collapsed beside the bed, his hand slowly and gingerly took her hand again, so cold and small underneath his.

"Hey, Hey Tass. You're fine now right? Your leg..." Jason let out a laugh, the kind that would make Tass laugh too. "You got back your leg. Isn't that great?" He whispered and kissed her forehead gently. It was just as cold as her hand.

After a few minutes of measuring her pulse (it was normal) and his own (it was jumpy), Jason stood up and stares around at the room. It looked like any other hospital ward, just much colder and more closed off. There wasn't a window, and the bright blue flowers in the bright blue vase on the bedside desk looked too fake, but when he ran his thumb over the petals, it was as smooth and silky as a real one.

"Mr Tobbs?"

A voice spun Jason's head around. A doctor was standing in the doorway, his face hidden behind the usual goggles and mask. "Yes?" He replied, his hands clasped together.

"The surgery for Miss Cacce was a success. We are glad she has got back her leg." The doctor said, his words happy, but his tone monotonous.

Jason nodded, a nervous smile on his face. "Yeah...thank you, doctor. Without you, Tass wouldn't be able to move around anymore. She would have to quit her job..." He trailed off. Tassidy loved her job.

"Yes, indeed. She loved her job, didn't she?" The doctor said, his head nodding slowly. "How much did she loved it? Would she have gave up everything for it?"

Jason opened his mouth to speak, turning his head towards his girlfriend. Tassidy had always wanted to fly and see the world. Being an air stewardess was, she has said, the best thing that has ever happened to her.

"I guess. She would give anything to get her job, even her life." He shrugged and turned to the doctor with a smile. "So thanks for making her dream come true again."

The doctor nodded, even more slowly. It was only then Jason realised his hands had been in his pockets for the entire time. Could an Other Hospital doctor feel cold?

"Yes, Miss Cacce would certainly trade a life for her career. Unfortunately, it doesn't necessary have to be her's." The doctor spoke again, his head turning to Tassidy. "You've chosen the wrong person to love, Mr Tobbs."

Jason narrowed his eyes. What did that mean? The Other Hospital was creepy, but they didn't mention they'd be insulting his choice of lovers.

"Listen here, doc. I don't care if you're insulting my taste of style or food, but as soon as you insult my Tass, I will-"

The doctor pulled out a gun.

Jason stopped short, his mind suddenly blank. The doctor was facing him again, and so was the gun.

"Miss Cacce agreed to pay the price. And the price was your life. And, tragically, you don't have a say in it. I am sorry, Mr Tobbs."

As the doctor clicked back the safety, Jason only had time to swivel his head towards Tassidy, whose eyes were wide open and filled with regret. Wait- no. It wasn't filled with regret.

"Tass." Jason breathed out, before a bullet was shot into his head, and through his brain.

The body of Jason collapse on the flood, and Tassidy Cacce stared at it, her heart thumping with fright, but not with sorrow.

I'm sorry, Jason.

I've always wanted to fly.
