Chapter 3
My heartbeat was unsteady, it was beating so fast that it slightly hurt.
What do I do?
Then I remembered the lesson I learnt earlier today, I needed to call the police, something I hadn’t done before. I reached for the phone and quickly dialled the emergency number.
Suddenly I heard footsteps upstairs, my body shot up to look outside the window, no one was outside, but he was inside.
I needed to protect myself, without thinking I dropped the phone onto the ground and ran to the kitchen. I did my best not to bump into anything and to try and make as little noises as possible. I quickly grabbed a knife from the drawer and took another just in case. I immediately ducked down as soon as I heard noises from the living room.
“Where are you?!” His raspy voice echoed into the silent house. I gulped, I could hear him going into the dining room which was the room just next to the kitchen, where I supposed to be hiding.
I quickly crawled to the hallway and crept up the stairs, I thanked heavens the stairs were marble so it didn’t make any noise. I was about to go into the study but then the carpeted floor creaked beneath me, signalizing where I was. I mentally cursed as I quickly walked as far from the study as possible. I heard the front door open and close.
Did he leave?
I still needed to hide just to make sure.
I quietly and carefully walked backwards into my room just in case he’d come running up the stairs. I shivered from the cold, did Lucia leave the window open.
“Boo.”
With one word, I knew exactly how close he was standing. I can’t believe I was so stupid not to check the room before entering it!
“Knives are dangerous, you could get seriously hurt.” He whispered in my ear, a chill went down my spine.
I closed my eyes shut to stop the tears spilling out but it still fell.
“Put them down,” he said sternly into my ear, “Now.”
I gulped as I slowly lowered put the knife down, I didn’t know what I was doing till I’d done it. Instead of putting the down, I briskly turned around and slashed his chest, causing his white shirt to rip and a small volume of blood to trickle out.
I dropped the knives onto the ground and hauled myself out of the room and down the stairs. I ran outside the door looking back until I bumped into a hard figure causing me to fall down.
I looked up to see what I bumped into, it wasn’t a lamppost as I had hoped.
It was him.
