Its been about eight months now living here. To be honest, I didn't really miss Scotland, and everything in Australia was better. I thought that I was going to miss the few friends I had, my neighbours that I never even talked to and everyone really. Although, after a month or so I just realised there wasn't a point to being that sad about things. I missed a lot of my family though. Obviously so did my mum and dad. Here, the neighbours were friendly, we actually talked to them. Plus the friends I had weren't as annoying as my last group of friends.
Our neighbours were Mr and Mrs Dover, they lived next door to the left. They had two kids who were both away to college, leaving them living a relaxed life now. To our right, was Ms Jackson, she was divorced and lived with her son, Jake. We talked to them briefly now and then but we never seen them around much. Across the street was the neighbour no one ever talked to, Mr Walker would stand at his window and stare out every morning then disappear and do the same at night. He scared me, and as far as the rest of the street, he scared them too. A lot of the neighbours I didn't know but my parents did. I personally didn't speak to them often, a smile or a wave at most.
My friends were Jen, who I met when I first went to school, Erica and Esme were Jen's friends so I pretty much just fit into their group. My other friends were Jai, Luke, Daniel, James and Beau. YouTubers known as the Janoskians. I had several other friends in my classes but none of them I saw out of school really. My new group of friends were better. My last friends were people you couldn't trust, tell anything to without them screaming at you or even people you could hang about with for more than a few minutes. I was quite glad I was moving in a way, hoping I'd meet nicer people and I did.
In the group, Erica and Beau were dating. I always thought they were a good couple, we all did. One of the closest couples I knew. They'd started dating after knowing each other a couple years. Friends to more than friends I suppose. Beau finally asked her out about two months before I moved over.
The other couple was Luke and Carley. Jen, Erica, Esme and I didn't like Carley. I never did although Jen used to be close friends until something happened. I didn't know what it was they fell out over, wasn't too bothered about it. Jen always said she didn't want to talk about it, was it really that bad? None of us liked Luke and Carley together. We never said anything in front of them although I think James and Beau had told him before that she wasn't worth it. Jen, as close a friend with Luke as she was, hated him for being with her. Again, something to do with this untold story to me.
Esme liked Luke. I was the only one she told it to, she said she didn't trust any of the others. I said nothing to anyone else. Esme was a good friend, I wouldn't spill anything. For a start, she didn't want Carley to know especially, (Obviously) and she mentioned that she had been friends with Luke since they had been about five and just being friends was the way it should stay. Although to be honest I knew she wanted him to be more than her friend. Esme was probably just thinking what would be best. I agreed really, but I suppose what happens, happens for a reason.
Between all of the boys in our group, I was closer to Daniel and Luke. We hung about more and I usually walked home with Daniel after school. Basically because Daniel and I were closer friends, everyone teased us saying we were secretly dating. We weren't though, just to make that clear. Sometimes it was funny comments they made and other times it was really embarrassing things they said. I guess it was just something we lived with and something that we got used to. Most of the time I just laughed anyway.
We were all sitting at lunch on Friday as we usually do when Esme turned to me and whispered something, I couldn't hear. She repeated it again, "Is that not Carley over there?" I looked over towards the tables over at the far end of the school yard. "With that boy, Thomas I think?" she added.
