"Princess, the king wants to see you in his study room" I quickly stood up and thanked the maid.
Father is finally home...it's been 3 months. I run through the hallways of the castle making the maids chuckled at the sight of the princess running. If mom saw me, I'm so dead...another 3 hours lesson of how to be a proper princess. But enough of that, after seems to be like forever of running, I finally reached my destination.
I knocked 3 times. "It's me Alirah". When I heard my father say 'come in', I opened the door and rushed to tackle him into one of those bear hugs.
"I miss you dad..." he chuckled and hugged me back.. "Oh my little princess...you're growing up too fast" I smiled at him and replied "it's okay...I'll be your baby princess forever".
Catching up with my father is one of the favorite things I always do. The way his eyes lit up when he told some stories of people he met, places he went...I never get tired of listening to him.
As we catch up to each other, we heard a knock. Both of us turned our heads on the door just to see the queen, my mother, standing there with a beautiful smile etched on her never ageing face. "May I join?" I nod happily.
Let me tell you a bit about me and my family.
I'm Alirah Nightingale of Crystal Kingdom, 17 years old, next to the throne. I got my mother's features which is red eyes, porcelain skin, rosy cheeks, pink lips, pointed nose...the only thing I got from my father is my reddish-brownish hair I guess.
Let me tell you a funny thing about my parents. After they got married, my mother never goes out of the crystal palace again. I don't know why but all of us respected it. For the sake of my protection, father thought that it would be better if I won't go out of the palace...that's why since I was born, I never see the beauty of the outside world.
But not that I'm complaining, I'm comfortable here...I got everything I need, though sometimes, I wish I could at least caught a glimpse of it, witness it by myself...not just imagine the things father would describe every time he goes out for business matters.
Back to the present time, the three of us talk about things...like a normal family without a royal title. I look at my parents admiring the love they have for each other. I wonder if I'll find the destined one for me...but me being stuck inside this castle, it seems impossible.
A wave of sleepiness wash over me as I let out a yawn. "Young lady, how many times do I have to tell you that you should cover your mouth with your hand if you're going to yawn" mother sternly said. I sheepishly smiled and said "I'm sorry mother, but I think I should go to sleep" they both agreed and bid me a good night.
"See you tomorrow, mom. dad...I love you"
I went back to my room and sat in my bed for a while. I pulled out my diary under my pillow, grabbed a pen and began to write.
dear diary,
Father is here today which made me and my mom happy. I hope he won't attend any business matters for this week since 3 days from now on, it's already my 18th birthday. I'm nervous to be honest since I'm going to show myself for the first time...I guess that's why princess lessons is getting harder and harder each day.
Back on my birthday, mom and dad both agreed to conduct a royal ball for me...in that way, they can introduce me as the next heir of the throne. I'm already imagining myself in a nice ball gown hoping some gentlemen would offer a dance with me...maybe that night, I can find the one who'll look at me like dad would look at my mom...
But anyway, I should stop expecting and focus on going with the flow...
I guess that's all I'm going to share for now, goodnight
love,
Alirah Nightingale
Contented with all the things I wrote, I put the diary back on its place and position myself for sleep.
One thing lingered in my mind...'I hope everything goes well' with that, my eyelids begin to flutter as I drifted off into sleep.
