NOT EDITED

Beth is 13 years old

"Goodnight mother, father." I yell to my parents who were downstairs. I was currently upstairs and couldn't be bothered to go all the way down the stairs, and all the way back.

"Come down here and properly tell us goodnight, lazy bones!" Father yelled out to me as I huffed in annoyance. I sat at the top of our carpeted stairs and slowly but surely slide down to the bottom as my bum slid from step to step.

Thankfully I was wearing sweatpants so I didn't get carpet burn.

I have learnt from experience.

I walk the rest of the way to the living room where the rest of my small family were situated. Jasmin, my seven years old sister was watching re-runs of The Simpsons as mother and father sat on the couch, watching silently.

I lean against the doorframe and smile at father when he finally notices my presence.

"I'm here. Can I go back to my room?" I ask him as my leg I wasn't leaning on, begins to bounce. Theo was waiting for me back in my room and I needed to talk to him.

Theodore was the shadow in the corner. Since he wouldn't speak, I took it upon myself to name him and Theo was the choice. He didn't seem to mind though.

"Are you too old to kiss your old man on the cheek before you go to bed now?" Father asked as he opened his arms to me. I smiled at father before walking into his warm embrace. Frankly, there is nothing like a fathers warm hug.

I kiss his forehead before moving to a grinning mother and kissing her cheek.

"Happy?" I asked him as I began leaving the room. He nodded before raising an eyebrow at me like I was forgetting something.

"What?" I questioned him before he nodded his head in the direction of Jasmin. I pressed my lips together in annoyance as I approached my sister. The more time I spend down here, the less time I get to spend upstairs.

"Goodnight twat." I whisper to her so only she could hear. Mother and father grin in our direction, thinking I must of told her a friendly goodnight. I couldn't help but fight off a grin.

Jasmin turned in my direction with a scowl before thumping my forehead. I fell backwards because I was squatted down on my feet and looked at mother and father expectantly.

"You weren't exactly quiet Bethany, you should of saw it coming." Father told me as I quickly licked my finger and stuck it in Jasmin's ear before sprinting off to the kitchen, hearing my parents call out for me to apologise.

I searched the fridge to find the container I hid tonight. I brought the left over food from tonight out and warmed it up in the microwave. Tonight, we had a roast chicken with vegetables which I hoped Theo likes. I quickly pull the hot plate out of the microwave and put it on a platter, as well as a can of soda.

I walk upstairs quietly and into my bedroom before switching off the lights, inviting Theo into my room. Five minutes later, I felt the wind blow in my room and smile at the familiar, surprisingly comforting feeling.

I close the window behind him as he backs himself up in the corner, like he usually does.

"Okay, so we had chicken and vegetables tonight. I hope that's alright but if it isn't, I think we have left over spaghetti from last night." I tell him as I pick up the tray and sit it in the middle of the room, where I have realised his comfort lies.

I have tries to get closer to him but he leaves when you cross over. Slightly disappointed at the length restriction, I have come to get use to it.
