Young Again pt4

Daniel ran excitedly into the briefing room up to General Hammond with Teal’C.

“We’ve got it!” He cried, while waving a piece of paper in Hammond’s face.

“I hope that’s good news about the location of our missing people Dr Jackson?”

“Yes! Yes it is. There is only one Stargate within the area they’ve calculated.” Daniel told him with renewed hope that he’d see his friends again.

“Permission to go to P4X 248 General Hammond?” Teal’C asked.

“We’ll send the MALP through first, and if it shows the right information then you two will accompany SG3 on a rescue mission.” Hammond smiled at them, but remained serious enough to remind them that it wasn’t over yet.

SG3, Daniel and Teal’C stepped through the Stargate after General Hammond gave them the go to find Jack and Sam. Around them people looked to the Stargate in fear, so Daniel went first to try and calm them.

“It’s ok, we’re peaceful explorers from Earth. We mean no harm, we’re just looking for our friends.” He approached a crowd of people, who relaxed slightly and looked as if they would co-operate.

One man spoke up above the crowd “Are you enemies or allies of the Goa’uld?” He demanded.

“Enemies! We are at war with the Goa’uld.” Teal’C spoke, and Daniel really hoped that that was the answer they wanted.

“Then you are welcome here.”

“Thank you” Daniel bowed his head towards them.

“You say you are looking for your friends?”

“Yes, we believed that the Goa’uld brought them here as prisoners, but it seems that your world isn’t dominated by the Goa’uld.”

“But it was until recently.” The man replied, as the crowd scattered and got on with their business.

“Come walk with me, and I’ll help you if I can.” The man offered.

“Thank you.” Daniel replied, “What’s your name?”

“Berin”

“I’m Daniel Jackson. I’m looking for a man and a woman that were taken from another planet by Apophis. Do you know anything about it?”

“Until 7 days ago Apophis ruled here. We rioted and managed to expel his kind from our planet. Before that though, he would bring people here from other planets in order to utilise our advanced biological technology.

He went through many of our drugs and medicines for his own uses, but his main reason for bringing prisoners here was due to the development of our ‘time-reverse’ drug. This drug can reduce grown men and women into children, but it was and still is highly experimental. I imagine this is what has happened to your friends. They are likely to be children now.”

Berin looked at the strangers and saw their grief at the news he had just told them. He felt sorry for these strangers, they seemed like genuine good people.

“Come with me, and I can show you the hostel that was set up in order to care for the children liberated from the prisons we found them in.” Berin motioned for the SG teams to follow, and they did so in stunned silence.

As they stood in the hostel looking at the children of all ages running around and doing jobs, Daniel voiced the question many of them had been thinking.
