Sunday November 1st, 2015. The day everything changed for the worse. I woke up that morning and smiled, it was my mother's birthday. I threw off my covers and opened my door. I jogged up the stairs and down the hall to their room. I walked in slowly, seeing if they were awake. It didn't look like they were, but then I noticed all of the red, that wasn't there before. I gasped and tears rushed to my eyes, my hands coming up to cover my mouth. I started shaking my head as I stood frozen. A broken sob escaped my mouth and was muffled by my hands. I slowly became unstuck from the floor, making my way out of the room and into the kitchen. I grabbed the home phone, and without hesitation dialed the police.

Three rings, "Moffat County 911, where's the location of your emergency?"

I took a shaky breath, "415 Sandrock Drive, Craig Colorado."

"Okay and what is the emergency?"

"M-My p-parents have-ve been kill-ed."

"Alright I am going to send the police, I need you to stay on the line with me okay?"

"O-O-Okay-y."

...

Maybe fifteen minutes later the police arrived at my door, and the operator asked me to hang up and talk with the officers. I hung up and walked over to my front door, opening the door for the officers walking up the front steps. I took another deep, but shaky, breath and greeted them.

"H-Hello officers."

The one on the left spoke first, "Hey, we're going to working with you today. I'm Detective Cade and this is my partner Detective Daniels." They were both tall, with dark hair and light eyes. Detective Cade had black hair and blue eyes, and Detective Daniels had dark brown hair and green eyes. They were both wearing jeans, and plain police jackets, but different colored shirts. Detective Cade's was a navy blue, and Detective Daniels' was white. I nodded and wiped my eyes again. I stepped to the side and held open the door as an invite inside. They nodded and said "thank you" before entering and heading up the front stairs. I followed and gestured for them to take a seat at the table. I remained standing as they sat hesitantly.

"Alright, let's start from the beginning of today. What happened?"

I nodded and opened my mouth to speak before it snapped shut and I couldn't get words out. So I grabbed the notepad and pen off the fridge and started writing.

I woke up this morning and exited my room, walking up both stairs and down the hall. I had the intention to tell my mother happy birthday if they were awake. When I walked in I thought they were sleeping... And then I noticed all the red that wasn't there originally. I was frozen for maybe a minute before I exited their room and dialed the police.

The pad was tear soaked by the time I handed it to the detectives. I saw Detective Cade's eyes widen a fraction before they set the pad back down in front of me. Daniels leaned his arms on the table and looked me in the eyes. "Do you have any siblings?" I gasped again and shot out of my chair. Oh good god. I turned and ran down the hall and threw open my brother's door. I let out a sigh of relief at the sight of him sprawled out across the bed. I quietly closed the door again and returned to the detectives who were now standing in alarm. I waved my hand at them and gave them the universal be quiet sign. They nodded and returned to their seats, while I did the same.

"So siblings?" Daniels asked once again.

I nodded and picked up the pen again.

I have one little brother, who's related by blood, and one little sister who lives in another state, and is that best friend that is considered family.
