See into the darkness

I woke with a start, tangled in my blankets and drenched in a cold sweat. Another nightmare. My breathing was loud in the eerily silent room as the rest of my cell mates snored softly.

I'd been running through a forest, sprinting to save my own life. Something was after me as I ran, it whispered my name soothingly and mysteriously. I knew the voice too well. But taking in my surroundings, I relaxed a little. I was safe here.

I curled up in my bed and fell into a dreamless sleep, a good change from my past few nights. But even though I was asleep I knew I had to keep running, keep fighting, keep-

"Blade!" Whispered Jupiter, shaking me gently.

I pulled my blanket over my head, trying to block him out.

"Go away its 5am I've still got two hours to sleep." I mumbled as he tugged at my blanket.

"You were talking in your sleep again." Said Nudge quietly.

I sat up quickly, I had been known to talk in my sleep and say things I'd never say while conscious.

"What was I saying?" My voice was low and alert. I'd gotten into a LOT of trouble last time I was sleep talking.

"Well, you kept saying get away from me... Or he's after me." Jupiter looked nervous, everyone knew one of my many talents was was my dreams predicted the future.

Last time something like this happened we became targeted to be assassinated, we hasn't even worked out who it was who wanted us dead. All we knew was that whoever it was must've dealt with us once or twice.

"It's probably nothing..." I sighed, lying back down. Jupiter caught my wrist, I could the fear in his jade green eyes and I knew it all too well.

"Blade even if it is nothing please... Please don't do anything stupid. We all don't want to see you getting hurt." He nibbled his lip anxiously. He'd always treated me like a sister, ever since I'd arrived at the camp.

The camp you see, was where they trained kids like us, kids who had gained some abilities after the meltdown...

I don't remember anything that had happened, hell, I'd forgotten my real name! But I remember waking up to three adults who I didn't even know. And that brings me here, it'd been 2 years and I'd harnessed my power, which was the strength of my mind. I could move things, lift things, even control people with my mind. Sounds cool right? Yeah, I thought that too until I found the price that came with it, mental instability. Getting into detail about my powers I could cause vivid hallucinations, very strong compulsion and could see the future with my dreams.

But this made me the most unstable person in the camp, I had a dangerous reputation for when I got mad or even depressed.

I could see all of this flashing through his mind, yeah, reading minds isn't so hard either, I managed a sleepy smile.

"Don't worry guys, I'm not gonna destroy the camp this time." I got a laugh out of most of them except Jupiter, his green eyes studied me before he went back to his own bed.

The rest of my cell mates included Nudge and Nina, the twins who felt each others pain and could take the shape of anything they'd seen before.

Havoc, who could basically weld huge fields of energy and throw them accurately with training.

Honey, who was as sweet as her name, was sent up from the depths of hell and had been here all of her life. She summoned demons and could bring back the dead, a rarity among any of us.

And Jupiter, my best friend, could cancel gravity in a room full of people and set things on fire, very useful.

We were a pretty badass team and probably the strongest in the entire camp. These were my friends, almost my family.

At 7 am our trainer, Tasha, banged on our door telling us to get up for breakfast.

"And Blade, you've got mail." She barked, handing it to me after I got dressed. About once a month some of us get mail from our family who couldn't see us because of the camp. I barely ever got it because I was fostered but very rarely my sister would write to me.

But the handwriting on the envelope was neat and linked, nothing like Janes unruly loopy writing. I tore open the paper anxiously and a letter fell at my feet with the same neat writing on it. It read:

Dearest May,

How are you young one? It has been a while since I've seen you, you must have grown a lot by now my child, I miss you.

I'm writing to inform you that I know where you are and I know what you are. I don't want to hurt you I just want to take you away from that place, how awful it must me dear. I can get you out formally or I may have to take you by force.

We shall meet again young May, or Blade as they call you.

From Your uncle Nickolai.

I dropped the letter and started to shake. He'd found me, oh god he'd found me. The dream wasn't nothing, I wasn't safe, I had to escape. My uncle knew, he was power hungry and had a warped dream that he'd take over the world. And with my help he may succeed....
